This place is beautiful. It has a warm homely feel you seldom find anywhere. The staff are lovely and I was fed to high heaven. Thank god for the beautiful hikes, which have scenery like something from a post card. I can't wait to return.

Initially a little concerned with regard to the price for one night, but this included afternoon tea on arrival, dinner, breakfast and lunch. All gratuities including car-valet included. Food was very good, considering the amount of people catered for. The Mohonk was fog-bound during our stay, so we couldn't even see the hotel when we stepped out of the door, but what we saw of the grounds was interesting and very pretty. Worth considering a two-night stay if you can afford it.

I have hiked the grounds here but never stayed in the Hotel it was always a dream of mine to stay here for the weekend .. so when deciding on a location for our elopement, this had to be it! we got married at Mohonk on May 12. I am so glad we decided on Mohonk!! The service was great, when the staff found out we had come to elope (I did not say so when I made my reservations) our room was upgraded. The spa is one of the best I have ever experienced, professional and relaxing - again, when they found out I was getting married I got a lot of extra love at the spa and extra attention to my make-up and hair. I have to say the surroundings cannot be topped for natural beauty - the first day we arrived we walked the grounds and hiked the lemon squeeze (my son't favorite part I think!) I hope we will be returning to Mohonk to stay on our special anniversaries (a girl can dream!)

Room Tip: If you can do it - tower room on the second floor or higher for sure!

Way, way, way overpriced for what you get.
We went for two nights the first week in November 2012
Food was gross. All meals were served in a loud dining room,
Breakfast and lunch buffet style, dinner is sit down. Food
Warm, overcooked and it's clear there is no pastry chef.
Wait staff is very inexperienced, interrupting you constantly
To see if 'everything is OK?' Disappearing for ever after ordering a drink,
Returning with only one entree at a time, forgetting what you ordered....very,
Very, inexperienced. Dining room was SO NOISY it really ruined our experience.
It didn't help that there was some convention there while we were there filling
The place with working professionals who ruined the ambiance.

Room was fine, but our $638 rate went up by $81.96/night for gratuity---all while the staff expected and waited for tips, they have got to put in a 'NO TIPS WILL BE ACCEPTED POLICY'. Then you tack on an additional $54.64 for an 'overnight charge'.
This makes your $638/night really $+800/night---too pricey for service provided.

The outdoors are spectacular-- our advice-- get a day pass and hike for one day, you'll love it. Stay and eat in downtown New Paltz. Not worth it.

This was our third time at Mohonk, and since we were last there (in 2009) the restaurant has definitely been upgraded. The hotel has a beautiful location and quirky character and organization, but it's a great place for an active vacation. In fact, it's not cheap since the room price includes meals and pretty much all the activities on offer (which are extensive). So if you aren't going to stay for a couple of days and swim or use the spa or tennis courts or lake or hike etc, it's a bit of a waste. If you DO intend to make use of the facilities, the price makes sense.

It's great for kids in all weather - if it's raining out the House is a big, rambling house built at different times in different styles, so plenty of places to explore. The staff are very friendly but tend to be somewhat compartmentalized in their duties -- you often get referred to some other staff if you ask a question at the wrong desk, of which there are many. They aren't trying to shrug you off, it's just the way they do things there. But these are quibbles -- it's just part of the unusual, almost 19th century attitude to hotelling (I mean that nicely) that you just get used to.

With the very noticeable improvement in the kitchen (which was previously a real weak spot) it's a lot easier now to recommend Mohonk Mountain House unreservedly.

Room Tip: If you want a fireplace in your room you'll get one of the older rooms, which are smaller and pl...

Had a overnight stay for our anniversary. I mentioned this while booking and when we got to our room we found a picture frame and a card from Mohonk staffs. Very nice touch. Room was clean. Small but nice. No tv in the room. Entire hotel was very quite. I think you are supposed to enjoy the nature/hike trail and read a book by the fire place. Nothing much to do this time of the year but I still found the brisk walk in the trail and around the house enjoyable. Rate we got included 3 meals. Food was tasty and restaurant had nice ambience. They charge 12% gratuity that covers all waitstaff, valet parking, housekeeping, etc. Alcoholic beverages were extra. Overall very nice and friendly staff.

There's no doubt this hotel has breathtaking views of 6 states, beautiful trails to walk, a lovely modern spa, delicious meals 3 times a day, a stunning picturesque lake that stopped the canoes while we were there ( Oct. 23 ) , a hotel & grounds with so much history but for $758 a night it was so upsetting to have to listen to the people next door talking, hearing the tv you can rent & snooring every night for 3 nights. At midnight I called the front desk & they sent someone up to next doors room, announced "Guest Services" gave his message, left and they continued as before. It was extremely upsetting and for these prices they really need to address the extremely musty smelling hallways.

Room Tip: Room 466 has very thin walls & the hallway is very musty.
