We selected this place based on a recommendation and were delighted in every respect. We go to quite a few bed and breakfasts and this one stands out because of it's amazing breakfasts, modern facility, immaculate cleanliness, it's warm and friendly hosts (Arnie and Kathy) and their two great dogs.

Our room had a two person whirlpool that was delightful. It was situated just under two windows so we could open the window and feel a cool breeze as the heat of the water warmed us up. Just perfect!

The king bed we slept in had featherbed softness to it with a pillow top mattress and a pillow top bedspread -- lusciously soft. We didn't want to get up.

The movie DVD collection was great so the day it rained we stayed indoors and enjoyed the whirlpool and watched movies on the flat screen TV from a loveseat in our room.

The New Paltz area is wonderful especially in the fall when the leaves change colors. We hiked along the Mohunk Preserve courtesy of free admission tickets provided by Kathy and Arnie. The restaurants they recommended (Beso and 36 Main Wine Bar) made for great upscale dining, though 36 Main Wine Bar got a bit noisy as the evening went on.

We stayed their for our Anniversary and definitely plan to be back.

My fiance and I went for a weekend getaway during foliage time last weekend. We had an incredible time staying in New Paltz and it had so much to do with Moondance Ridge. The inn is soooo cozy and nice - an awesome B&B. The breakfast was AMAZING. Really delicious. Kathy the innkeeper was so sweet and really helpful in giving us info on the area. We were lucky with gorgeous weather but even if it rained all weekend it would have been fun to stay in the B&B and just RELAX. The rooms have whirlpools and tvs and really comfortable beds. The restaurants in the area are sooo good (Beso and 36 Main = incredible). I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone going to New Paltz.

Just what my husband and I needed for a 4 night mini vacation. The rooms are immaculate, breakfast is fantastic, the place is quiet and New Paltz is cute with enough to do while remaining low key. Kathy, the owner, will point you in whatever direction you need. She recommended "36 Main Restaurant & Wine Bar " for dinner and we loved it so much returned on our last night. Most of the other guests were out so we had the place to ourselves. The staff is friendly and interesting while not intrusive. This is a great place cared for with love and it shows.

Me and my boyfriend (now husband!) were looking for a quiet get away right outside of NY City where we could run off for the weekend and elope. We took a spur of the moment chance on Moondance Ridge and it ended up being the perfect spot.

Kathy this innkeeper was so helpful! She helped me find a officiate and a hairdresser and let us get married right on the property. Arnie is a great baker and made the best muffins and scones in the morning. He even took some candid pictures for us of the ceremony which turned out great! There was a small forest in the back of the house with a little pond with frogs and deer. We got married right at the entrance of the woods where they have an archway and a hammock which made for some really cute pictures.

The rooms are spacious and beautiful. We had lots of space to get ready and I especially liked the beautiful vanity dresser and mirror in our suite, I felt like an old movie star putting on my makeup. We also had a two person whirlpool. It had the feel of a charming woodsy hideaway with luxurious rooms, lots of space and a friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend it!

The Moondance Ridge Bed and Breakfast is everything a B&B should be and offers just what the leisure traveler is looking for. The house and grounds are perfectly kept. The rooms are lovely, comfortable, clean and well-appointed. Breakfast is a delight.

The New Paltz area is noted for it's charming main street with quirky shops, boutiques, pubs and restaurants common to an "off the beaten path" college town. Strolling downtown is always full of delightful surprises and interesting people. Trendy city folk will find a Starbucks at one end of town and Bohemians will find "The Muddy Cup" - the opposite of Starbucks - down the street with equally good coffee and revolution in the air. (WiFi is free at both)

The outskirts of town have miles upon miles of gorgeous mountain vistas and apple orchards. There are endless well-groomed hiking trails open to the public. throughout the mountains and defiant, tall cliffs beckon the bold rock climbers who also flock to the area.

Moondance Ridge is just ten minutes or less from all of this. The B&B also offers lovely grounds of its own just to stroll or relax. There are nice lawns, decks and porches, hammocks and a sauna. The woodland trails and frog pond are inviting for their opportunities for peaceful contemplation.

The B&B has a large airy dining area in which to enjoy the delicious, generous, freshly prepared wholesome breakfasts and hot coffee and tea. The host and hostess are warm and friendly people. They will converse at length about the area if you wish or let you enjoy your privacy if that's what you prefer.

There is also a cozy library with a fireplace for evenings of reading or board games or lively conversation about the events and discoveries of the day. If you prefer, you can just borrow a DVD of a recent movie from the library and take it to your room to enjoy with your feet up and a glass of wine. (Bring your own wine.)

There is free Internet connectivity for those who need to stay in touch with their email.

The large sized guest rooms have Queen or King sized beds, sitting areas, whirlpool baths and lots of large windows for plenty of light. Or, close the blinds and sleep in!

This is a terrific place to stay and offers a great retreat from NY city life, only 90 minutes away!

We are frequent travellers who work in the film industry and stay in a LOT of B&B's and hotels while working. We have quite specific tastes because it needs to feel like home for a long period of time. Due to this we think we have mastered what people want in a B&B. Detail matters, design and style matter....

Moondance knows these things matter too. It's obvious the owner had a dream and is delivering this dream to her guests. It was raining when we went but we could see the tremendous potential in enjoying the peaceful surroundings. For any urban dweller this is the place to escape and see green, feel peace and enjoy the well thought out trails and grassy knolls. We had our own amazing lightshow with the light bugs dancing in the forest through their trails. An incredible experience with literally thousands of them dancing about.

The hosts were welcoming but knew when to step back and be discreet. Often the demise of any B&B is the over eager host, but they knew when to give us our time during breakfast and when to engage in conversation. You could feel the love and attention to detail in the music, the fire, the way they placed out local magazines, the fresh fruit plate. And the food was incredible. It was all natural but cozy type offerings with fresh baking we couldn't resist. The muffins WERE TO DIE FOR. I mean, a muffin? Truly delicious. They gave us the recipe and an extra two to go. We fought over those two muffins, let me tell you.

I was a little surprised at the cost of our room compared to the room itself. My husband surprised me with the room so it was easy to throw away the stress I often get when I know how much something costs. He also picked the grandest room. It seemed a wee bit on the high side ($328.30 incl. tx), when I think of the high end rooms we've had in other areas for that. But don't let that stop you - we only had the choice of the one anyway as the other more economical ones were sold out (not surprising as they were all nice rooms). I also justified that our room had the sunken jacuzzi tub (the selling point) and if we had used it, I'm sure we would have felt we got our money's worth. I was envious of the front rooms with the front porches outside...when we go back we'll book one of those!

I see where they are merging out of a late 90's design and in to a more open, earthy/modern appeal for 2009. Much of the place has that open, airy feel, lots of windows, natural light, natural carpeting, paints and decor. I am sure it will continue to evolve in to an earthy, environmentally aware, peaceful retreat as they are clearly getting there now and you can see their intentions everywhere.

They have thought of everything and I see where they've merged a hotel feel with a B&B in the way they place their items in the bathroom etc.

It's a gem people! I can only imagine where this B&B will go with such passionate and caring hosts excited about their product and eager to think of all the details you would want to enhance your visit.

I would very confidently say if you want to go to New Paltz, a community with an exceptional hippy vibe, beautiful views, nice local places to eat, biking, hiking, local art work - if you go for a fantastic experience....start that experience with at least one night at Moondance Ridge.

My husband and I stayed at the Moondance for 3 days in July, during our daughter's orientation at SUNY New Paltz. It was our first B&B experience, and we are now spoiled for all future B&Bs!
First of all, I encourage you to visit the Moondance Ridge website: http://www.moondanceridge.com/ . It is a well designed and easy to navigate site, and will show you exactly what everything looks like. No surprises!

The rooms:
We stayed in the Starry Night suite, and enjoyed it immensely. It was clean, large, beautifully furnished and decorated, the king size bed was comfy, the private bathroom included a shower and a jacuzzi that was large enough for both of us to enjoy. There were wonderful, polished wood floors. There was a mini fridge, a pull out sofa, TV with DVD. Everything worked perfectly, and there were lovely little touches like a bowl of chocolate kisses, shower gel, shampoo, aromatherapy for the jacuzzi. There was plenty of storage space. Our room had lots of light, and a door out to a private porch with dining set that overlooked a pond with weeping willow trees, a garden, and the beautiful wooded property.
We had the opportunity to visit each of the rooms, and they were all equally wonderful. Every room has its own private bath with jacuzzi, and own TV with DVD. Every room has either a private outdoor porch or an indoor balcony that overlooks the great room. Every room was beautifully furnished and spacious.

The great room:
There is an amazing stone fireplace, surrounded by shelves holding a fabulous, up-to-date DVD collection, an extensive and varied library of books and CDs, a CD player, a collection of board games, and a quality assortment of various sculptures and photgraphic works of art. Lots of comfortable seating is available. Double doors lead to an outdoor deck with seating and a sauna.
The dining room has several tables, beautiful china and serving pieces. We appreciated the gorgeous assortment of fresh flowers on every table! A lovely touch!
The walls throughout are really an art gallery, with fantastic photographs by local artist, Lauree Feldman.
A small room off the entry houses information and brochures describing area attractions, as well as a small computer for guests' use. Nice! The whole place is WiFi, but without my laptop, it was nice to be able to check my mail, as well as research some sights we were considering.

The food:
Breakfast was delicious!! Kathy was gracious, accommodating and sensitive to our dietary requests (more on Kathy later). Day one began with a banana-strawberry smoothie, featuring fresh local strawberries. We then enjoyed to-die-for pumpkin belgium waffles served with a generous portion of crisp turkey bacon, and delicious orange juice. An assortment of coffees and teas were always on hand.
Day two began with fresh blueberries, raspberries and bananas, served over vanilla yogurt, and then whole grain, thick sliced, orange cinnamon french toast, served with fresh strawberry syrup and turkey sausages. Portions were large, and we were always offered seconds!
Throughout the day, a fridge is stocked with complimentary bottled water and an assortment of sodas. A large bowl holds apples, and two smaller ones hold almonds and chocolates. There are also granola bars. We loved the snacks! So thoughtful.
At around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, we were greeted by a large pitcher of lemonade, and fresh strawberries and sliced watermelon.

The property:
Very conveniently located to the college, close to a local golf course with spectacular views of the mountains, close to shops and restaurants.
The grounds are private and well maintained and feature a small pond with frogs, a short nature trail through the woods, two large hammocks, scattered benches and chairs.

The innkeeper:
Kathy was amazing! She is welcoming, friendly, thoughtful, and saw to our every request and need. She is well informed about the area, and guided us with restaurant suggestions, gave us free passes to local attractions, anticipated our needs. She was available when we needed her, but gave us complete privacy, as well.

I highly recommend the Moondance Ridge for the following reasons:
- clean, spacious, comfortable, luxurious and beautifully decorated rooms
- private bath with shower and jacuzzi in every room
- TV, DVD, WiFi in every room
- private outdoor porch or indoor balcony in every room
- superior service that is friendly, thoughtful & accommodating. Our needs were anticipated, and our requests were graciously met.
- delicious breakfasts that considered our dietary requests - complimentary soda, water, fresh fruits, nuts, chocolates, coffee, teas, lemonade throughout the day. Very thoughtful.
- spacious common areas that include a large stone fireplace, library of up-to-date DVD/CD/books/board games, comfortable seating, beautiful views, computer, fresh flowers on every table, and an art gallery covering the walls.
- well maintained grounds featuring gardens, nature walks though the woods, a pond with frogs, hammocks, seating, sauna
- location that is private and close to New Paltz main street with shopping and dining, SUNY New Paltz college, hiking trails, golf
I will definitely go back! Feel free to contact me with questions nklei@optonline.net!
