My husband and I chose to stay at Moondance Ridge Bed & Breakfast for a brief fall getaway, largely based on its excellent reviews here; and boy, are we thrilled we did!! The B&B is tucked away in the charming, delightfully quaint town of New Palz - about a 15-20 minute drive from the NY Metro North train station (in hindsight, I'd recommend to rent a car from nearby to get around the town, if you arrive via public transit - as there is no public transit in New Paltz). The home/B&B is kept in beautiful condition, and the owner, Kathy, is exceptionally wonderful and hospitable!!!
We stayed in the Starry Night room, which has a beautiful canopy 4-poster bed, a front porch, small TV living room area, mini fridge, and bathroom has a whirlpool tub; all gorgeous. Kathy (and her 2 bull dogs) are extremely warm and friendly! My husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary, which we noted in our reservation (which we had only made the night before, might i add!), so upon checking in, Kathy recalled our special occasion and brought us a complimentary bottle of red wine as a celebratory gift (saying that she loves to do things like this). She also keeps a fantastic common room/library space for all guests, where you can borrow a plethora of games, DVDs (DVD player is in the room, bonus), and she presents an array of snacks (try her homemade madeline cookies!!) including fresh coffee/teas/hot chocolate, and local fresh apples to snack on all throughout the day.

Kathy was extremely kind and helpful, above and beyond her position. She asked us what our plans were, and if she could offer any advice - her dinner recommendation of a local Italian restaurant called A Tavola was exceptional!
Since we did not have a car, she offered to drop us off to local parts of town, and even drove us up close to the Mohonk Mountain!
She is also an incredible cook - be sure to enjoy her homemade breakfast each morning; it is truly a treat!! Everything was truly delicious and presented beautifully, with care.

Also, make sure to take time to walk around the grounds - as it includes a beautifully kept wooded area, with a steam room, hammocks and a trail that leads to a peaceful, secluded pond.

We are thrilled to have met Kathy; she is a gem, and can't thank her enough for such a spectacular, relaxing stay!!! We look forward to coming back to New Paltz and hopefully staying with her again.

Room Tip: Starry Night is more of a splurge, but if you want to treat yourself, go for it!! We loved it for a couples weekend.

Gourmet breakfast was prepared each morning with great care to our preferences. Coffee, tea and snacks are available all day. The accommodations were excellent. Many recent movie DVDs were available for a leisure evening in. I very much like that the grounds show quite a commitment to the environment.

Room Tip: If you like a very warm room on cold days, the room to the left of the entrance appears to be above the furnace. We opened a window in very cold weather to obtain the temperature that we desired.

Sincere thanks to Kathy for all the hospitality and kindness crammed into what was, for us, too short a stay in this beautiful property and area. We were on a sentimental journey for my wife up to the Hudson River Valley area. Minnewaska and Mohonk were places regularly visited by her as a child on family holidays. Our time was limited in the area however due to other commitments. Based upon our experience with Kathy at the house we will definitely return and will arrange for other family members to do likewise. Everything was perfect, the room, ambiance, comfort, scenery, the grounds around the house etc. + a couple of very cute pugs!
Breakfast was delicious in the morning and to sit and gaze out onto such a pretty woodland area made it even more of a treat. Thanks very much for the fantastic local wine and cheese when we arrived (it certainly hit the spot!) We hope that you continue with your enterprise for many more years to come - you do it all so well!

We were here for a mid week getaway for 2 nights. We stayed in "Starry Night". The room is located on the corner first floor with a door to the front porch. What a great place to relax!! The room is clean and comfortable. It has a large soaking tub (great for post-hike) and a fireplace. Kathy, the owner, loves her "job" and it shows. Breakfast was delicious. The menu well planned. There is a lot to see in the area, so it makes sense to make Moondance Ridge your base. We look forward to coming back!

Room Tip: Starry Night is on the corner of the house, first floor. Very private and quiet.

My husband and I traveled here for a weekend getaway from the city to celebrate our anniversary and absolutely loved it. The owners are such a lovely accommodating couple, the rooms are great, the snacks left out are perfect for a lazy weekend (top it all off with the delicious home baked goods!) and the breakfast was unreal and so filling! We were there for the first snow of the season, and got to take advantage of the sauna, hiking nearby, wine tasting, and the beautiful stars that we never get to see in the city. Can't say enough about how lovely the host couple made everything; they were so sweet and accommodating and we loved getting to know them and how they got there.
