The place was crowded, but the healthy menu and unusual selections made up for it. Also, the waitress was snappy and attentive. Food was fantastic.

Good choices and unique seasonal specials. It was good, but not rock out good. Prices were average - nothing special inside - more a local spot. $1.99 special still on the menu. Ice tea is not real - it's that fake syrupy stuff.

Okay, yes it's noisy, sometimes crowded...yes, the menu is ecclectic and the food is hearty and prepared with love...yes, you can still get a full, hearty breakfast special-2 eggs, homefries, toast-- for $1.99!!!

The Bistro is our hometown, main street gem. It is THE place for breakfast.
It's a gathering place. A place where people know each other, say hi, catch up, read a book or the morning paper;
a place where local business owners and the EMT crew start their day;
A place that celebrates and displays local art on the walls.
A place that offers vegetarians real options, including "fakin' bacon and sausage," soymilk, and tofu!
They proudly offer organic coffee and a great selection of microbrewed beer!

Be warned--The Bistro is NOT a sterile, franchised, pretentious restaurant. It's a living, working bistro. Leave your attitude at the door.
Be warned, show up after 9 am on a weekend morning and, yes, you may have to wait for a table. Of course, it's worth the wait.
Can't handle it? Go a mile up to McDonald's or Burger King. They've even got those drive-thru windows!!

As for the "rude" waitstaff (according to some of the previous reviewers).....have you ever waited tables and tried to deal with rude customers??? hmmmm...
The waitstaff at the Bistro is a HARD-WORKING, dedicated, experienced crew. There is little to no turnover amongst them....they know the locals and know what they eat.
They welcome ALL with friendliness and smiles, but, yes, it's true, they may have little tolerance for whinning, meanness, or general idiocy.
ENJOY!!

It's a must do when in New Paltz. Pop hippy food.

When my brother comes up from NC we usually go out for breakfast two or three times. I haven’t been to the Main Street Bistro in over a year because the last time the breakfast was just OK. Nothing special.
Well it hasn’t changed. The table was sticky and the eating utensils were dirty. When I pointed out the deficiencies to our waitress. She gave me an evil look, then using a dirty looking sponge wiped off the table leaving it wet. She served the food and then took her time replacing my utensils. The food was OK but it had cooled down quite a bit by the time she returned. Needless to say when I paid the bill she received a zero dollar tip. I will never go back.
McDonalds is better and I don’t go there.
