The freshest, healthiest seeming Indian food I've ever had, best Indian food in New York for ingredient-conscious people with high expectations for flavor. Shrimp curry is fantastic

“Twice: First and last time”
Reviewed April 23, 2012

My wife and I actually came here twice. The first time was shortly after it opened when it was completely vegetarian a couple of years ago and we were not impressed then. I had heard from two colleagues that they offered meat now as well and they asked me to give it another try. We went there last week for dinner and they had either the dinner buffet for $16.95 or a very small selection of other a la carte dishes (about 6).
We opted for the dinner despite its hefty price tag. The buffet offered one chicken dish (I believe it was biryani and two vegetarian options palak paneer (spinach with cheese) and aloo gobi (potatoes with cauliflowers). The chicken was so, so, the palak paneer was terrible (really weird consistency and the taste was not impressive) the aloo gobi was the best they offered. My wife ordered a dossa which was decent. However, no coconut chutney came with it leaving it dry. The Mulligatawny soup was average their yellow lentil daal was subpar. This is the first Indian restaurant that I have been to that does not offer mint/coriander chutney. They did have mango and pickles. The plates were not prewarmed. The dishes in the containers were at best lukewarm. 15 minutes after we arrived they put new sternos under the dishes. We did not get new plates and were supposed to use the same plate for everything. Their kheer (milk rice) was good.
Conlusion: This was the most expensive Indian buffet that we had been to and we will never come back. They might offer organic chicken but their Indian food is worse than the New Paltz Indian Restaurant (which is average). If you want outstanding Indian food in the area go to Tanjore in Fishkill or drive to Middletown but do not waste your money at this place.

“Delicious foodl”

Very good vegetarian dishes, as mild or as hot as you like. Good wine by the glass. Huge portions. Two could easily share one entree. Reasonable prices.

“Wonderful, inspired Indian Food”
Reviewed January 13, 2012

The food at Suruchi is consistently good. Service is not top notch, but doesn't make or break the place. Portions are hearty, so you can always share or bring home extras. Love the organic and natural options here. Very different than the other Indian restaurant in town.

“Excellent Indian food”
Reviewed June 10, 2010

One of the best Indian restaurants in the area, Suruchi is definitely something that should not be missed by the lovers of Indian cuisine.
The food is good, prices reasonable, the servers pleasant and the ambiance pleasing with strains of Indian classical music playing in the background.
