Truly authentic Japanese fare, light and tasty! This is a great place when we're with friends all who have diverse dietary needs: gluten free, vegetarian, carnivores and seafood-sushi lovers. Best of all, at a very reasonable prices giving a truly outstanding value.

For a busy Saturday, the service was prompt and attentive, as we had made reservations earlier -- it was a good thing we did.

Our miso soups included tofu, seaweed and scallions, in other words additional, flavorful ingredients not usually found at other places. We shared our apps which were scrumptious, and included fried Yasai Gyozo, Shu Mai, and Futo Maki. For entries: one spicy sushi roll; one veggy roll and two chicken teriyaki dinners of which one was without sauce to accommodate our gluten-free diner. The only very minor criticism (which prevented a 5 star) was they had a superb Bok Choy appetizer on special, listed on the menu with mushrooms in a garlic ginger sauce. It was delicious, BUT literally only one mushroom. None the less, we had a great meal.

The sushi is always very fresh, delicious, and priced right. If you have a gluten allergy be clear with them of what you cannot have so they do not mistake "wheat" for meat! It is what makes the place authentic, they are actually Japanese (they do not speak very good english)! Love the philly roll, maui roll, and hot sake.

As someone who lived in Japan for two weeks and loves Japanese food, I can tell you this place is top knotch. Their sushi is delectable and you will constantly crave it! The shumai is juicy and steamed to perfection. I would recommend this place to ANYONE who wants good, authentic, Japanese food.

The service, the food, the atmosphere...all top quality. The best in the region for my money. I even see the owner coming out of Gadaleto's often with large bags so that tells you right there they care a lot about the quality of their fish. I love this place!

Hubs and I love sushi and Hokkaido is our absolute favorite! This was our go-to date night place when living in New York and we visited often. The owner is very nice and hospitable and the staff was always attentive and polite without being intrusive. It is a tiny dining room, so you need to make reservations on a weekend evening.
After many, many visits I highly recommend the following menu items:
Red Dragon Roll, Spider Roll, Godzilla Roll, Miso Eggplant, Black Cod with Miso, Spicy Tuna Avocado Boat, Pickles
The fish is always very good quality, especially the tuna, and it is always the perfect temperature. The sushi chefs are very skillful and their knife work is impeccable. The rice is excellent as well. The attention to detail is much appreciated. This is not your average trendy sushi joint where the chefs are local college hipsters.
It may be somewhat difficult to find if you are new to the area, and parking can sometimes be irritating on those back streets, but it is most certainly worth the extra effort. I hope you will give it a try!
Thank you, Hokkaido, for all the good times! We'll be back someday :)
