Owner description: Encompassing more than 600 acres, the Genesee Country Village & Museum is one of the largest living history museums in the country. Located in small hamlet of Mumford, New York, about 20 miles (32 km) from Rochester, New York, USA. First opened to the public in 1976, the authentic 19th-century Historic Village features costumed historians breathing life into many of the 68 relocated and restored historic homes, farms, shops and other public buildings. When you visit during the regular season you will find various historic trades and craftspeople as well as historic cooking and agricultural demonstrations. GCV&M is also home to the John L. Wehle Art Gallery, the Genesee Country Nature Center, Silver Baseball Park, and several Heirloom Gardens. Numerous special events and classes are also offered throughout the year. Our regular open season runs from Mother's Day weekend through Columbus Day, with special programs in November, December and March.

I visited the Genesee Country Village over 20 years ago, as an opportunity to expose my daughters to some of the history of the area. It was very nice at that time.
I recently had the opportunity to once again visit the Village in July, while my Nephew participated in the Civil War Re-enactment representing my GGrandfather's unit, the 9th NYV Cavalry (aka Westfield Cavalry). I was very pleasantly surprised how much had been added...frankly, I was quite in awe of the current Village. I have always been a history buff, but to see the archectectural stuctures from our past that now adorn the Village is beyond description. What an incredible day!!!!!
I heartily commend all of the people that have been involved in the development of the Genesee Country Village & Museum and I strongly recommend anyone who has not visited it, to take a big step into the past. It is certainly worth your time and a living History for you children to learn from.
