We were looking to escape the chaos of New York City for a weekend in the winter and that's exactly what we found. The lodge is beautiful - a large and welcoming common space where we enjoyed breakfast every morning (Hal is quite the cook) and could sit with a glass of wine in the evening. We stayed in the Lavender Room (upstairs), which provided us with some some privacy from whatever might be going on downstairs. It was cozy and quiet, had a great view of the grounds and local landscape, and has a fireplace which was immensely welcome on those cold, February nights. Because of the season we were unable to take advantage of the grounds or large back porch.
The lodge was a nice starting-point for day-trips and the Hal provided suggestions for local sites (wineries, museums, shopping, and restaurants) and directions to get there. We found ourselves a short drive away from a variety of destinations on both sides of the Hudson. The lodge has easy access to local highways for longer treks, but is not right on top of them (no highway noise). We were made to feel very welcome. Our winter escape could not have been nicer. We will gladly head back in warmer weather to more fully take in lodge and area's offerings.More
