The Getaway at Glen Highland Farm
Reviewed August 28, 2013

My husband and I went to the camp in June with our dog, Shadow. We had been looking for a place where we could relax with our dog and could not have found a more perfect place. We went for two nights in June and had such an amazing time that we came back for 5 nights in August. All three of us were relaxed and enjoyed each others company. The facility has all you need. We stayed in a cabin with twin beds. Sleeping was very comfortable and the cabins were clean and had paper goods, a lantern and refrigerator. If you go in August bring warm pjs because the nights get cooler. There are miles of hiking trails that are easy to walk and range from easy straight walks to hilly tree lined paths. For swimming you can chose the stream which meanders through most of the property or the frog pond which is quiet and relaxing. There is a kitchen area called "The Hound Hub" which is perfect for preparing meals with ease on either the gas grills or the open fire pit and a supply shed for food storage with refrigerators and freezers. The bathrooms and showers are kept extremely clean and are a short walk from the housing. If you looking for a place to spend time with your pet than there is no place like this. We are all looking forward to going back next year.

We visited Glen Highland Farm with our own RV in July of 2013. Our two youngest "boys" (one a border collie, the other a schip mix) came with us - and we don't know who had a better time - us or them! This is an almost completely leash-free vacation for you and your K9 companions - we found the more they were off leash, the closer they stayed to us. Unfortunately, when we were there, it was on the heels of a horrendously rainy June, and the area that housed the creek was off limits (for good reason), but we had a ball in the fields, at the pond, on the trails behind the pond and at the common kitchen area. It was so great to let our little guys go and explore and have fun. We met several other wonderful dog-loving people, and loved the tour of the rescue and were inspired by what they do there - rescue Border Collies and find them the perfect forever home. We are already planning our next trip back and can't wait to return. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and had great insight about why dogs do the things they do. Worth every penny and then some! Plus - when you stay, you are helping support their rescue work. What could be better than a beautiful vacation in the country while helping further their mission of helping BCs?

Just returned home from Glen Highland Farm. Can't wait to go back... (currently planning a stay for next year :).

It was our first visit and we had an awesome time!!! The minute we pulled in (we drove thru the night from Naples, FL) we were greeted by a volunteer who couldn't be more enthusiastic!! One of the staff, John showed us to our RV which was clean and comfy! He was so kind! He helped us unpack our car top carrier and brought our stuff to the RV. (which we had way too much of!! ...guess this is common for newbies)

Shortly after that John (different John, the owner) took us on a tour of the property. WOW! acres and acres of the most beautiful land! Well kept and very organized...there are stations where you can get water for yourself and for your dog, chairs, hammocks, lounges to recline on, Butternut Creek, Bull Frog Pond, Garden of Resting Spirits, trails designed by some of the many Border Collie residents...the list goes on and on!! An agility field, Frisbee area, trails, trails and more trails. One of my favorite spots was up on a hill that overlooks the Rescue Barn, the RV's, the Connor House, Agility field and Magic's Meadow.

But the best part was having a chance to get to know my young BC mix. It is a doggie wonderland! He was off leash most of the time and enjoyed running, searching, digging, rolling, swimming, exploring, and playing with some of the other visitors and residents. I was hoping he would matured a little on this trip, he did !! :)

At meal time everyone gathers around the pavilion to prepare their meals. We met some really nice people that I hope we can keep in touch with and maybe plan to see again. Here the facilities are also kept clean and well stocked with all of the items you need to prepare your meal. A great place to visit with new friends and enjoy a glass of your favorite beverage while the doggies play (they provide a bucket of balls and frisbees for the dogs!). It was at the pavilion where we were joined by John and Lillie owners of GHF. They stopped in to visit and asked us how our stay was. It was great talking with them and hearing how GHF came to be this fantastic vacation place as well as one of the best Border Collie rescues in the country.

Everyday we would run into staff members who asked if we needed anything and how our day was going. Special thanks to Jos and Mary!!

Plan to take your dog(s) to this fantastic farm!! Not only are you helping to support a wonderful cause, you will also experience the most restful and enjoyable time with your four footed friend(s)! Oh and don't forget to ask to go on a tour of the rescue, it in itself is an amazing facility!!

Just writing this review has got me dreaming about my next visit! Can't wait to go!!!!!

One of the best 'getaway' expierences we've ever had. It's like coming home to a country family reunion. From the moment you step out of your vehicle, you can feel it. A calm, a warmth, comes over you. It's not just the staff either. The other guests greet you (usually k-9's first), as if you were old friends. The low number of guests at any one time makes it possible to interact with everyone, as much, or as little, as you like. You WILL make new lifelong friends. The common bond, our fur covered family members, teach us so much about what we have in common. There were plenty of solo treks and one on one playtimes, which were wonderful, but, I beleive my favorite times were standing at the edge of a field, drinking a cup of coffee with a new neighbor while 8 or 10 'Borders' had an absolute blast with one simple tennis ball. If you happen to be the lucky one who entertains the pack, while others start breakfast, you will cherish the memories forever. Of course, you could prpare your own meals in your camper if you like, but we opted to do ours under the fully equipped cooking/gathering pavillion. Wood fire, or gas grills, coffee pots, and room for everyone to share... with your 'best fur friends' playing and entertaining each other within plain sight. Everyone there sharing and watching out for everyone else in a totally safe enviorment for both pets and people. We will be returning again and again. The only problem is our disagreement on camper or cabin. What a great choice to have to make. One last thing. If you get the chance to sit on the table on the top of the hill in the middle of the field after dark, (with an adult beverage or two) look up! More stars than you have ever seen!

My partner and I, along with two friends, went to Glen Highland Farm's Canine Country Getaway this year for the first time. We had an absolutely amazing time. We booked one of their cabins but due to construction were upgraded to one of their amazing cottages. The cottage was amazing. The beds were comfortable, they had provided a mini-fridge and coffee maker, and the ceiling fan circulated the air beautifully. It was quite and peaceful even with people and dogs staying in other cottages, cabins and tents. The dining pavilion was amazing and provided everything we could have imagined we'd need while there. The trails are well kept and there are so many wonderful places for the dogs to play. We had so much fun watching the dogs race through the woods, through trails, into and out of the water. It was wonderful and peaceful and exactly what we all needed. The dogs LOVED it. We also loved that they had agility equipment set up for us to play on (all who were there had been doing training in agility with their dogs).

We are absolutely going back next year. Our three night stay was just not long enough last year so we'll hopefully stay even longer this year!
