We were there the last week in July. The staff was great, we ate the free breakfast each morning and loved it, all of our kids had a great time at the pool and the way the rooms are situated the cousins could go from room to room visiting each other. Some of these reviews are scarry. But, maybe we were just looking to get the family together, we could not have picked a better place.

Stayed at the Montauk Yacht Club despite reading some bad reviews. It was much better than expected. The views were beautiful. Rooms were large and inviting. Service could have been better. Each night we had to ask for towels since the maid forgot to leave them. The front desk acted like we were a bother.

As a Corporate Events Planner, the Yacht Club has been our
venue for a week-end Dinner Dance for seven years in a row. This past July, 2005 was no exception. Having to accomodate 350 people in several different venus in town, the Yacht CLub is the nicest without exception. Villas and rooms are clean, housekeeping is prompt and courteous.

Our function is so spectacular that Summer Boaters and Yacht Club
guests alike stop by to "sneak a peek". Il Mare can hold its own with
the best of New York City "swank" Italian restaurants.

It is delightful to have breakfast on your terrace overlooking the Yachts.
One might think they were sitting in the South of France and not Montauk.

We stayed at the Montauk Yacht Club this past weekend for a family reunion of sorts. I had made the reservation at the last minute, and unlike most Montauk hotels I called, the staff at MYC were very accomodating.

After reading the reviews on this site, I was terrified. (We paid $415/night for a studio "villa" - nonrefundable.) The reality was fine. The location is nicely out-of-the-way from the traffic of town. It is across the street from the Star Island Yacht Club, the site of the Shark Tournaments (my sons loved this.)

While the walls are thin and the place does smell mildewy, the room was nicely updated, and the restaurant was pleasant.

All in all, a much better time than expected. The hotel is lovely, but the mildew smell is a problem that should be addressed for this price.

I decided to book a weekend get away for my partner and I. I have never to New York and don't know much about the "Good Areas" to Vacation or Get-Away. Montauk Yacht Club came highly recommended from a good friend and though I had read some not so positive reviews, I decided to bite the bullet. The weekend turned quite nice; the scene was beautiful, the maid service was prompt and efficient, the food was good, the room was the perfect size - intimate, the walls were pretty thin (however, that didn’t bother us our neighbors may have an opposing opinion.) and the pool was nice. Since we didn't have much time we didn't want to waste any; we had all we wanted right there at the Yacht Club no travel needed. I plan to go again for my Birthday.

I often read reviews on this website before booking a trip at a hotel that I know nothing about. I did not take the time to read the reviews before booking at the Monauk Yacht Club. I should have. The July 10 review was right on. In summary, I advise that you DO NOT stay at this hotel under any circumstance.

Brief impressions from our weekend visit:

As you enter the lobby of this hotel, things appear normal. We got directions to our room (North Forty building) from the woman at the front desk. As we entered the hallway to the North Forty building, it was immediately obvious that something was wrong. The hallway had a very foul odor; there were numerous luggage carts parked throughout the hallway; there were brooms, cleaning supplies, etc. sitting on the floor; the walls were stained and badly in need of a coat of paint (or two); the floorboard heater/ A/C system was laying on the ground. When I tell you that the carpet probably has not been cleaned since 1983, I am not exagerating.

We then opened the door to our room (which, by the way, cost $415 per night plus tax). I can honestly say that you will find more pleasant accomodations at a Motel 6. The walls were filthy; the air conditioning unit was a wall unit that hummed about as quietly as a Harley motorcycle; the bed spread was disgusting and immediately went to the floor; the bathroom walls/floors were filthy and full of mildew.

We did not bother complaining to management about our room because based on the general condition of the hotel, we could tell that the conditions were similar in all of the rooms.

To top it off, the walls are VERY thin. We were woken up each morning at 6:15 am by a group of people in the adjoining room yelling at each other and slamming their door. The one positive thing I can mention is the location. This hotel is located on the water. We were so disgusted with the hotel, however, that we did not hang around at all to enjoy it.

I have stayed at many hotels and do not mind splurging to be taken care of and have a nice vacation. The owners/management of this hotel should be ashamed of themselves for the condition of the hotel and the amount of money they charge for a room. My simple advice: Do not stay here under any circumstances.

It's obvious that the glowing reviews of the Montauk Yacht Club were written by the staff or owners of the this dump. (Notice the complete lack of detail and canned phrases used in these recommendations.)

How much did I despise this hotel? Oh let me count the ways:

-the room and hallways reeked of chlorine (from the grotesque indoor pool) and mildew, a pungent combo.
-the place looks like it was last updated—not to mention cleaned—thirty years ago. The sheets, curtains, and furniture were extremely cheap and the mattress was saggy.
-the staff was surly and unprofessional (they got into fights in front of guests and just loitered around, looking bored). Upon seeing the room, we turned around and begged the asst manager to give us our money back, to no avail. He did offer to upgrade us to a "better" room, which smelled and looked even worse than our original room.
-the pool was tiny and ugly.
-the food at the breakfast buffet was awful-- the Eggs Benedict was rock hard and the smoked salmon tasted as if it had been sitting uncovered in a refrigerator for a week.
-a "samba band," which consisted of 5 strange looking men dressed in ill fitting green t-shirts and Tevas, banging on upside down trash cans, played very loudly (so loud the noise was deafening even with our sliding glass doors closed) for several hours.
-the other guests were loud, obnoxious and dressed mostly in wife beater tank tops and jean shorts.
-the appropriate price for a room at this hole would be $50-$75. We paid a high season rate of $414. (It's a long story, but we ended up here when another hotel in East Hampton lost our reservation and we had no choice but to stay here.) We travel frequently and have no problem paying for beautiful rooms and outstanding service- neither of which were available at the Montauk Yacht Club. A Holiday Inn would have felt like The Carlyle compared to this place, which really did remind us of a 70's era motel.

You've been warned.
