“Good hotel for families - though some issues”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

We went to the hotel four four nights- leaving on july 4th. We had a good trip overall but there were some issues.

The good: Very kid friendly, fire pits and you can buy marshmallows there (albeit for $7 a container). I only wish the fire pit was lit at a specific time every day. The kids got used to it and i had to request it several nights and it would take some time. The beach area is nice- though small. Free paddle boats and kayaks which were fun.

The bad: Beds not that comfortable, pillows terrible, lifeguards not all that friendly and didn't seem to care about the lack of towels, beach chairs. This was even on the non-holiday nights. There was a real lack of chairs and towels. Strangely, there weren't any outdoor showers and people tracked sand throughout the hotel and in the pool. The indoor pool should have set hours- it's ridiculous it's only open in inclement weather as it's nice and warm. If it was open a few set hours a day- as opposed to not knowing if open- it would be nice.

If traveling with kids- i highly recommend beach view 1st floor. We took 2nd floor bc of concern of noise but 1st floor opens to the beach- ease for using bathroom, if you have a kid napping, snacks, etc. On the weekend - the rooms without a view overlook the bar area and could be noisy and the marina 1st floor rooms lead right out to the boats and small children unattended could easily fall in.

All in all, i'd probably go back again b/c it was great for small children. I'd avoid holidays and go w/a beach 1st floor room.

Also- a resort fee seems a bit much for what is offered- add it to the price as opposed to listing it!

Room Tip: 1st floor beach area rooms are great with kids b/c you can walk right out- and sit on your patio wh...

Our family has been going to the Montauk Yacht Club for 8 years, this year was absolutely perfect! The new restaurant and bar managers, John & Wayne, are keeping our drinks full and plates hot. We had two last minute dinners for 6 that couldn't have been better.

There was a large music event, Shark Attack...well that was great! My daughters loved it and we enjoyed the music and people watching.

Big improvement in service from top down, keep up the good work.

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms if your bringing your pet.

Granted it was July 4th weekend, but the staff was totally ill-prepared to handle the number of guests. Housekeeping didn't show up until after 3:00 pm, the property was covered with garbage, there were no towels at the pool or "beach" and it was impossible to get a parking spot. The rooms were nice and the location is great, but it will be a long time until I go back. The staff could not have been any less helpful.

To pay these prices and not get a chair at the beach or pool any of the days was beyond irritating. No where would I pay over $700 a night and have no chair for several days.
Needs a little updating, but a really nice layout and facility. Also restaurant service was lacking, pricey meal and my kids waited over 1-1/2 hours for their food.
Came here as it was nostalgic for my husband growing up on boats and coming here. They do cater to boaters, but should make sure to focus on the other paying room custoners as well.

Room Tip: Overlook the marina.

My partner and I have stayed at the Montauk Yacht Club three times: two during winter and the latest was last weekend.
Each time we have had a wonderful experience. The rooms are absolutely serene and the amenities are the best you're going to get in Montauk. They have a lovely breakfast and there's nothing better than waking up on the waterfront with a balcony, etc.
The staff at the front desk are particularly welcoming and accommodating. We are certainly looking forward to returning throughout the summer!

The Montauk Yacht Club is in a great location and has good facilities, although sadly not always open as advertised. The staff are pleasant and the property is well maintained.

We booked two roms for two nights via a link from the Tripadvisor site to Hotels.com. On arrival it transpire that the hotel's booking system was down and it remained out of action for the length of our stay. The night clerk was helpful and found two large rooms with comfortable beds into which we happily collapsed after a three hour drive and eight our flight. The lack of the promised lake view was not a problem at night nor was a trundle bed in what should have been a twin room. However in the morning the hotel declined to honour our booking saying that the Hotels.com site was erroneous and that the class of room we booked was not as described. Neither the hotel nor Hotels.com could agree and in the end we decided to settle for a complementary breakfast and sty in the original rooms.

The Wednesday night film show was cancelled at short notice and pool opening times seemed something of a moveable feast.

Some families seem to greatly enjoy the place but other guests were less enthusiastic.

Room Tip: Book direct with hotel and get it in writing

I have been to numerous yacht clubs on the East Coast and the Great Lakes and by far this is one understands their guest come first. It has a Country Club feel with service being a high
priority from the front desk,a Hurricane Alley breakfast, to Room Service. This club stands up if not better than any other Yacht Club on the east coast, you think your in your own private club. Simple & Clean Line Furniture, Elegant, smart and graceful atmosphere without being too stuffy.

Room Tip: Don't be afraid of the villa's, large rooms and bath, they are like having your own house.
