It was cold when we got there. There's a playground for little kids. Not much to do besides the lighthouse. Only some meager trails. $10/person seemed pretty steep to walk up to the top of the lighthouse (no pun intended). (Also $8 parking.)

My husband and I decided to visit this state park to give our dogs some fresh air. While pets aren't allowed on/in the actual lighthouse and grounds, they are allowed on the trails and on the beach, as long as they're leashed.

We hiked the rocky path that circumnavigates the lighthouse and leads to the beach. There are a few trails from the beach that offer excellent overlooks of the lighthouse and sweeping views of the ocean. We also saw some wildlife (birds and seals) in the water, which allowed for some fantastic photographs!

This is a great spot for those seeking an easy hike/walk and sweeping ocean views.

Went to Montauk State Park only to find a sign that said, “beware of guard dog” and closed. This was after a 2 hour drive during a weekday (Wednesday at noon)

The lighthouse is in a beautiful location with a lovely walkway with some interesting historical plaques and explanations of the history of the location. You can walk to the top of the lighthouse but there are a fair number of stairs so be prepared. Nice place for quiet reflection or for a brisk hike.

A really nice trail if you are in the mood for a relaxing hike. Bring your cameras in case you spot seals sunbathing on the rocks. I do wish there were some better trail markers, it is easy to find yourself on the restricted part of the beach with no way out other than to turn back around.
