A wonderful spot for lunch. Served up to 4:00 P.M., which is at least an hour later than most restaurants in this crowded Summer resort. The pricing is much better than on the dinner menu, which is also fair. Food is good with something for kids and adults alike. Sitting outside is scenic and delightful and allows the kids to have fun in the small adjoining beach area. The long standing Gosmans has gone toward the gourmet side and the prices have gone up accordingly. Great lunch choice without having to go to the cash machine prior to dining.

“Great place for kids and boaters”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2013

Crab cakes were recommended by fellow travelers. My wife's Crab cake was good but not as good as we imagined it. My shrimp was good . Prices were reasonable . There were a lot of kids there and people who pulled up in their boats. Nice family atmosphere.

“Good food, fun atmosphere, mediocre service and not cheap”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013

My family went to Montauk for a week with some recommendations for restaurants. After looking at many of the menu's like Gosman's, Duryea Lobster or Navy Beach we felt that a good option would be Rick's Crabby Cowboy Cafe. We got there and the setting was great (at least if you have 2 young children). We sat outside on a perfect night, Bright blue sky leading to sunset. Right on the water. Even a couple of airplanes flew over from the neighboring airport. We had a waitress come, take our drink order and then 5 seconds later another waitress came over to do the same thing. That happened several times to the point where we couldn't tell if they were giving people extra attention or were totally disorganized. My daughter ordered the pulled pork. It was very good. My son had the typical kids chicken finger meal. Both my wife and I ordered their Crabby bucket which is mussels, clams, steamers, shrimp and a choice of (skirt steak, king crab legs or lobster). It was excellent. I had the king crab legs. But the service was very slow. We were there a solid 2 hours if not longer and we walked right in and got a table. It was a Tuesday night. Not a Friday or Saturday.

If you have kids though you can walk by the water while you wait and the best part, they have fire pits where after dinner you can purchase marshmallows a hershey bar and graham crackers and make smoores. If you have kids, hit this place. If you are a looking for a hang out place. Hit this place. But the other reason I don't give this 4 stars was it was expensive. Our bill was around $230-$240 with tip. Granted I had 3 beers and my wife had a pina colada but a lot of that was we waited so long that we ran up a $35 bar bill

“Fun!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013 via mobile

Montauk is very busy these days and with a large group of family and friends it is tough to enjoy a nite out all together!!! We took 35 people -kids and adults- on a rainy nite to see Rick. Rick and his staff couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. The service was attentive and spectacular and the food was unique and delicious. Rick allowed us to bring a guitar or 2 in for a singalong at the end and actually joined in for a song or 2!!! What a great place!!!!!!

“Do not go!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2013

I was a fan of ricks cowboy cafe but after tonight I will not go again.
The owner is the most unprofessional, rude, and nasty man you'll ever meet. A very innocent request to our server for separate checks for a large party was responded with the owner yelling at us and essentially kicking us out without anyone at our table saying a word to him. It was so unexpected we actually asked if he was kidding. Our server, other patrons around us were all appalled and shocked by the owners behavior. He does not deserve a penny of your money. If you want the great atmosphere go to the restaurant next door called moby dick.
