The service was Excellent! Our server was knowledgeable and prompt. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. Must try the Duck Taco's!! Nice wine selection, beautiful sunset over the water. Look forward to another great meal there!

“First time back after a long hiatus”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

It's been quite a while since we ate here so we thought we'd keep it a chance before the season started. We had a window table overlooking Fort Pond, and were there just in time for sunset.
None of the entrees really appealed to us, so we decided to have a dinner of small plates (appetizers) and salads. We started with duck tacos which were quite good, but everything else was average at best. Service was friendly, but little reason to return as other restaurants beckon. Worst part of the dinner was the lounge singer whose voice could shatter glass.

“Fresh Seafood, Cooked Well”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

We stayed at the Stone Lion Inn, which is attached to the restaurant, when we were in Montauk for a wedding over Mother's Day Weekend. We had occasion to pop into the bar when we arrived and we had dinner there the first night.
The food was well prepared, fresh and delicious. The service was fantastic. We ate at the bar, and there was an eclectic mix of people, normal for the Hamptons: two older couples at the end of the bar, a very good guitar player covering the classics, a mom and her little boy dancing to the guitar player, some enthusiastic 20-somethings ending the night there.
The restaurant has beautiful views of the lake and is classy, but unpretentious.
To Note: the reception for the wedding we attended was held here. This restaurant has amazing food, but they aren't a banquet hall. I was surprised at the wedding that the food wasn't as good as it had been the night we ate at the bar. But, cooking meals as orders come in allows the chef to pay attention the meal; cooking to have meals ready at the same time for the entire restaurant is an entirely different matter.

“Really disappointing. Poorly managed. Riding on laurels of sister restaurants.”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

This restaurant is associated with several amazing restaurants like Harvest (on Fort Pond) BUT, it is clearly just riding on their coat tails. Its tacky - not sure how else to describe it. The bar at the restaurant was fairly full when we arrived at 6 and was already a bit rowdy. The restaurant area (which is large, ala banquet room) was broadcasting a pandora-style rock station that was completely inappropriate and inconsistent with the expected ambiance. We actually requested to have it changed and the volume lowered. Seemed obvious to us that it was inappropriate. The food was mediocre. I do not think it was prepared to order but rather, it was pre-cut and pre-pared to drop in the fry-olater. By the time we left at 7:30, several of the patrons from the bar (very drunk) were having a heated conversation, using profanities, on front porch near the entry of the restaurant. The evening was a disaster. So disappointing. And, fairly expensive for poor quality.

“Waterfront Dining - Great Sunset location”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

East by Northeast (aka ENE) is located on Fort Pond in Montauk, which is a sizable pond right in the town of Montauk. The dining room faces West, which affords a great sunset location for diners to watch the sunset over the water and the distant lights of the houses on the opposite shore. Also, depending on the daylight left, there are small sailboats - Sunfishes - scutting about in the pond, giving an overall delightful visual experience. The menu is sort of an eclectic Asian-fusion with a New England twist, using mostly local ingredients for the seafood, which, given Montauk's location, is about as fresh as seafood can be. There is a "small plates" menu, allowing for tasting or tapas-type dining as well as full size entrees. There are also meat and vegetarian selections, including a very respectable hangar steak. We've been to many Montauk restaurants over the years as well, and the service at ENE is about as professional as it gets. Given the seasonal nature of most of the restaurants in town, which often means inexperienced and casual service, this is a consideration. They take reservations and they are prompt and efficient at the front of the restaurant. The wine list is only fair and the desserts are relatively predictable, but the solid menu otherwise, the picturesque quality of the room and the professional service are what makes this a very good Montauk dining selection.
