My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights..nothing beats falling asleep and waking up to the sight and sound of the ocean. The room was clean and comfortable..well worth the money. It was still off season so the pool wasn't open ( they were cleaning and prepping it for the season the day we left). Close to everything..park your car and walk to the bars and restaurants around. The ones in town have that layed back montauk feel I love. Plan on coming back as often as I can!!!

I found myself pleasently surprized by the Royal Atlantic Beach Motel.

You absolutely can't beat the location. It's right on the beach and within 2 minutes walking distance from town. A cab from the train station is $7. So you can hop on the LIRR in the city and enjoy a beautiful weekend getaway without needing a car.

The front desk was helpful and friendly. The rooms are big and clean but a little shabby. And the beds are not comfortable.

We did get a complimentary breakfast at the Papa John's restaurant in the motel for the length of our stay. We had a terrible experience there. Our food was lost and our server was exceptionally terrible. For the hour and a half we spent waiting for 2 omlettes and some coffee you're better off spending $5 to buy some bagels in town.

We did have an excellent lunch at Nick's restaurant next door. They have a beautiful terrace overlooking the beach. The food is surprisingly good.

All in all a good experience. A quite overpriced good experience.

Spent August 30th thru Sept 2, 2005 at the Royal Atlantic Resort in the "North" building which was across the street from the beach. This is the "all suite" building. The 1 bedroom suite was plain but comfortable. the bedroom and the living room was seperated by the galley kitchin. Decor was outdate, but as I mentioned it was comfortable enough for the 4 days that we were there. The only complaint I have is the air conditioning units, they were very loud.

Overall I found the location, the pool and the beach to be very nice. The food in the area was very good. Breakfast was included with the price of the accomadations, great choices and very tasty. The restaurants in the immediate area (the Plaza) offered different varieties to please all. We experienced horrible service at Gosman's Dock, which is north and on the harborside of Montauk. The food was good but unfortunately that was spoiled because of the bad service. The Hostess, Charlotte, is a crabby old woman with the personality of a wet spounge. After we were seated in the middle of the stuffy main dining room on the upper deck, we requested to be change to another table by the open windows and let her know we would be willing to wait as long as needed. Her attitude toward our request is the same kind you would give a panhandler would if he was begging you for your last dollar. After 25 minutes she puts us at the very last table far removed from everything, with a view of a bush and the parking lot and next to the waiter's station. Needless to say we were very dissappointed. Unless you're willing to spend good money on a meal to have it ruined by an old crow like Charlotte then Gosman's Dock Restaurant is the place to go.

Otherwise we had a very nice time on Montauk. The Lighthouse is a must! It was a great 1/2 day trip and it wasn't too far from the Royal Atlantic. The weather was great cosidering there was some residual clouds from Hurricane Katrina. The beach gets crowded very quickly so go early and claim a space. The snack bar had great chix wings and the beachside pool was great to cool off in since the waves were too rough for my 5yr old. Alchohol was everywhere, so unlike some other places I've been to before, you are allowed to drink beer anywhere. I would recommend the Royal Atlantic to the family crowd but if you're single I think you would find other places better suited.

Royal Atlantic was a final stop on a holiday from London England that had taken in New York, Washington, Niagra Falls, Boston and Cape Cod. It included all the fun of the U.S. So five days on the beach was what we needed, wanted and got.

The accomodation is perfect ocean side holiday fare, not upscale or pretentious. Rooms and beds comfortable. We had a unit pool side and enjoyed quiet restful nights. Full breakfast with good choice. Friendly staff.
Beach life was wonderful with my three kids enthralled by the daily 'soap opera' of New Yorkers on vacation (Joan Rivers meets the Ocean). An ocean evening stroll as the sun set became a daily family event.

Local restaurants all good The Lobster Roll ''Lunch'' west of Montauk sensational.
Final day we hired a fishing boat 'Dawn' with skipper Bob and Ritchie taking care of us really well. Caught a huge bin of fish. We took some fillets of striped bass and blue fish to the chinese 'Wok and Roll' who have a sign ''U hook 'em we'll cook 'em'' The food very good and to eat what you caught a great memory.

Montauk is a terrific destination and has all the simple pleasures for a range of people from young too old.
Wish I was back there now!

I did not fall in love immediately with the Royal Atlantic, but it grew on me. It is very rustic and not in the charming sense. I didn't expect anything fancy, but the room was a little on the depressing side. One of the two chairs on the terrace was broken and it took several calls to the front desk to get a new one. The room was very clean however. It took me a little while to adjust to the close quarters. My room faced the court yard with the pool which led to the ocean. It seemed very crowded to me at first. There were tons of families with children. I must say that if you closed the sliding glass doors, you could not hear a thing. Even though there were people up on the patio all night, it was not an annoyance to us.

We ended up having a very nice time. The location is wonderful. You are literally steps to the beach. You could go back to your room without any effort, to go to the bathroom or do a diaper change. The town is in walking distance. We walked to restaurants every night. Most of them were very casual and kid friendly. If you are looking for something a little more upscale, we found a very good italian restaurant called "Aqua" only a block from the hotel. The harbor side of Montauk seems to be a little more upscale and you could always take a taxi to that side for a nice dinner as well.

The room comes with breakfast at the restaurant at the Royal Atlantic which we enjoyed each morning. Although the restaurant and bar is open all day, they allow you to bring your own food and booze and eat it on the table near the pool.

For the wonderful location and the convenience, I would definetly recommend the Royal Atlantic. We went with our children and we are thinking about returning next year. If you are looking for a romantic get away I think I would stay somewhere else.

We had a great time and a very comfortable stay the rates are not inexpensive but you certainly get what you are paying for the scenery and view are unsurpassed other than going to the caribbean.do not be disueded by the the horriffic reviews as they are obviously submitted by other motel owners in competition remember it is a seaside Motel not a five star Hotel and in an age where dollars have become quarters $185.00 per night is a bargain just price out ocean front real estate for yourself most people spend that on cell phone service alone.
