This is the most famous site in Montauk. If your a light house fan this is the place to go. Parking was a bit of a hike and 8 bucks, so I choose to see it through my car window.

Thank Ed S

There was a long line to get into the lighthouse, so we just walked along the beach and enjoyed the view from there. Parking costs $8.00, but if you go after 4:00 pm, it’s free.

We were in Montauk for a few days and decided to go to the Lighthouse as it was not a beach day. I am so glad we did. Although there is a hefty parking fee and fee to get in to the lighthouse/museum, the views from the top were amazing. My family enjoyed it very much.

Oldest lighthouse in New York. There is a museum and gift shop. Very scenic, but you must go for the seals. It's quite a sight to see!

Let me start by saying that the Montauk lighthouse and its surroundings are very nice. This is probably why they have turned it into a tourist trap: $ 8 parking fee regardless of the duration of your stay (we stayed not more than one hour and parking in Amsterdam is not that expensive...) and there is nowhere else where you are allowed to park, and subsequently a $ 9 per person entrance fee to the lighthouse. The staff at the kiosk was extremely rude to some other guests both when we got in and same thing when we went out, and we ourselves didn't feel particularly welcome either. Also the staff at the lighthouse regulating the access to the top didn't really demonstrate to like their jobs. At the bottom of the lighthouse there is an interesting and well set up museum about the history and legends of the lighthouse, all other lighthouses of Long Island, and the development over the last centuries of the region and its original and current inhabitants. Again, the lighthouse, area and views from the top are very good so up to you whether that's worth the money and enduring the bad customer service of the staff.
