Most people who travel through or live in this part of upstate New York are familiar with the old Blanche's Diner on Route 17B in Mongaup Valley. The diner catered to locals, tourists and parents passing through during camp visiting day for many, many years. Blanche's closed soon after she went to heaven, leaving a great void in the area. Janet Planet's new place is on the same site, but it is not the same place. It is still casual, but a bit hipper and a bit more of a gourmet flare. Breakfast including some yummy specials is served all day and there are tons of other yummy things for lunch many of which still include comfort food and still at very fair prices. I had the homemade chili and absolutely loved it. It was seasoned just right. I heard another guest say the French onion soup was the best she ever had and she would be coming there for lunch from now on, not just breakfast. Free beverage refills are included for most soft and hot drinks. Recommend to anyone in the area for breakfast or lunch and they are open on Sundays until 1 pm, something Blanche had stopped doing years ago.
