Staff was pleasant. But rooms are lacking. No clock. TV up-volume on remote did not work. Drip in tub could not be stopped (placed towel under drip for the night). Door latch area VERY beat-up/deteriorated. Light switch entering room did not operate anything. (had to walk across room to find a light at night). Pillows were terrible (thank goodness I brought my own). Noisy room heater kicked on every few minutes. (poor insulation - LOTS of ice cycles hanging from building, single pane glass in slider window). No coffee pot in the room (free coffee available over in the dining area, but need to walk across the snowy, cold parking lot to another building). I've had breakfast here once before, and it was reasonable $ and good. Skipped it this time to expedite getting to the slopes. Room low $ helped us stay ~10 minutes from Greek Peak

Room Tip: Parking lot got very loud at 3 am when we stayed here last year, as bar-crowd let out. We lucked in...

Best night sleep in weeks. Couldn't travel any longer and was lucky to find the Three Bear.
Good food (Breakfast) real nice folks. Everyone (customers and staff) were very friendly and helpful. This could become a habit!

I am writing this review to save others from the terrible experience that I had based on reviews that must have come from sensory deprived travelers. The room was dirty - I have pictures of an inch of ancient dirt around every baseboard. There was no security lock of any kind on the door and the chairs were too short to prop against the knob. The towels were not only threadbare, they were torn and had holes. The bathroom drains were rusty - I didn't even use the shower. The room reeked; of smoke and mustiness. The bed was slanted and lumpy. The entire place was filthy. I toyed with the idea of sleeping in my car but the weather was too cold - save yourself - keep driving.

We love to stay at the three bear.

The rates are awesome and maybe the rooms look a bit out of date.
But what really makes every second worth it to stay there are the people.
From breakfast in the morning all the way to the bar at night, evryone is zo friendly and helpfull.
We always try to fit in a stay at the three bear inn every time we visit the northeast of the USA.

In a world in which you never get what you pay for...this is a place that is just the opposite. A hometown, friendly inn with good food, good service, clean and comfortable. The staff makes you feel right at home. We would stay here again and again rather than going to bigger city locations. It would be worth the commute to those locations to get the atmosphere at Three Bear. We got there too late to make the Seafood Buffet, but the Prime Rib Buffet was just excellent. Exactly the cut you wanted from this big, tender piece of meat. Everything priced unbelievably below its worth. The only thing I regret about the stay was that it couldn't have been longer. We'll be back. Oh yes, the Maple Festival is also worth the trip.

Room Tip: Call early, it isn't a big place.

My husband and I stay here to visit our son who attends Cortland. We love saving the money over the chains in the area and you truly do experience local flavor. So the room my be a bit rustic and the bar a bit noisy, you're in upstate new york. And by the way, it's always full and there was a Jaguar in the parking lot last time I checked in. Live a little.

The Three Bear Inn is a breath of fresh air. It is clean and comfortable, with a welcoming staff, friendly atmosphere and cozy dining area and tavern. If you want a feel for the local community, stay at the Three Bear Inn. Centrally located in downtown Marathon, it is conveniently located and walking distance to just about everything. Rooms my have dated decor, but it is delightfully reminiscent of a simple time when the road trip vacation was de rigueur. That is the charm of the Three Bear Inn - it doesn't try to be anything else. The tavern and dining room reflect the area's passion for hunting. The tavern's convivial atmosphere is conducive to easy mingling with locals and other guests. The food is basic, hearty fare and includes regional favorites such as "speidies." The fried chicken was excellent, served with mashed potatoes and brown gravy. Breakfast was equally satisfying, with free coffee available for guests. If you want good value, comfort and convenience splashed with a flavorful burst of local color, the Three Bear Inn is definitely the place for you.

Room Tip: If traffic noise bothers you, the center rooms are the furthest from the street and highway.
