“Beautiful interior, mediocre holiday food and service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012 via mobile

My family chose Club Car for our Christmas dinner after an earlier good dinner here. Boy, were we disappointed. Maybe they had trouble with staffing that day - service and food were mediocre.

There was a long delay in bringing our first courses. Since we were having soup and salads and the restaurant was about 1/4 full, the delay was surprising. The soup and salad were well prepared, but we weren't finished with them when the main courses appeared. Club Car specializes in steaks, so we were surprised to have to ask for steak knives. We also had to ask someone to find our waiter to order a second round of drinks.

The serving sizes for the steak and fish specials were large. Unfortunately, the steak was filled with fat which was hard to see under the coating.

A serving oddity was that the fish and chips were served with a cloth napkin on the plate under the food. That made it hard to cut the fish.

This was an expensive dinner that was a disappointment from beginning to end.

“Beautiful rennovation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2012

Club Car's renovation of the old Mamaroneck Train Station building is simply gorgeous. It's one of the nicest restaurant interiors anywhere. in the NY Metro area There's also a very nice bar with a good selection of beer and a pretty decent wine list.

However, dinner at Club Car was good, but not really great. Maybe they hadn't worked out the kinks in the kitchen when I was there. Sadly, nothing I had there really stood out. Certainly for the money I expected more.

Speaking of expecting more, the service was clumsy, overly aggressive in trying to "upsell" and barely competent in English. The language skills of the waitress who served us were lacking to the point where we struggled to communicate at all. What's worse, she had a bit of attitude that absolutely does not belong in a high end restaurant.

It's puzzling to me that the owners paid such attention to the details of the space but seem to have settled for a rather low standard with the wait staff. Again, maybe that was just the early going.

I'm still going to say Club Car is "Very Good" mostly for the atmosphere. I hope they get the food and service up to the same very high standard set by the remarkable interior.

“Disappointing food. Ok to get a beer.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

Met a friend for dinner and drinks recently. Sat at the bar. The atmosphere is nice. They are trying to look like an old fashioned whiskey bar/lounge. Reminded me of Capital Grille decor. The bar was well managed. Service besides that was ok at best.

I think its ok to get a few drinks. But stay away from the food. They screwed up my order of burger. Couldnt finish it. The patty was that rubbery and hard. When you charge a premium price you should at least try to serve decent quality food. Not willing to spend big bucks on a second trip. Stay away.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

Our first visit was right after they opened and it was less then a positive experience . However, several months later they have their act together. The food was very fresh American cooking. Good variety Ltd of fish and meat. Prices are a little on the high side, but portions are very generous. Setting is a cool throw back to an old train station house and feels clubby. Service is trying hard to please too. Only complaint s the bar... Not great bar tenders and that's similar to the first visit. However, definitely give it a shot. You'll enjoy the food. Glad we gave them another try.

“Gorgeous and delicious”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2012

Club Car is a stand out - really beautiful even by NYC standards, and delicious food. If I had one wish it was that they would add some entrees that aren't quite so expensive so that we could think about popping in on a week night and having a lighter meal. But, for special meals, this is a great option.
