We had a really good meal at Stillwater - we ate steaks and pasta. Marian is a great host and the setting is stunning by the reservoir. It is a long drive to the location but inside the restaurant it is very homely and atmospheric. Loved it!

For the past 4 years my boyfriend and I have been camping @ the Stillwater reservoir every July and we stop in @the Stillwater Hotel for a drink and snack.Marion and Joe are awesome.Marion is such a sweet funny lady. The food is great and her desserts are AWESOME.Everything is homemade so you won't be disappointed.

We just came back from a wonderful visit to the Stillwater motel run by Marian and Joe Romano. Great food, get the blue cheese wedge. Don't forget a creative wine and beer list. If you like red meat, get the steak. I enjoyed the shrimp scampi. What a beautiful location, looking out at the lake from the restaurant. Look at dozens of hummingbirds from the deck. Book room 7 or any of the rooms. We can't wait to get back ... We've been coming here over a 26 year period. Enjoy,
Sue and Chris

The wife and I, along with my sister and her husband traveled from Port Leyden, NY to the Stillwater Hotel restaurant for dinner. The trip took us about an hour over back roads and a final dirt road to the hotel located in the boonies of upper NY state in the Stillwater Reservoir. The restaurant, located in the hotel, had a limited menu and is in the mid price range. The service was excellent and the food was exceptionally good. Not what one would expect for such a remote location. We all had the prime rib cooked exactly as requested, with corn bread, salads, a cucumber/onion type dish which was absolutely mouthwatering, baked or French fried potatoes and assorted drinks. The wife and I had a light and dry wine that went well with our entree. We had a wonderful table by the window where we could watch dozens of hummingbirds feast and a great view of the reservoir. Other than the bumpy ride into the wilderness in the back seat of the car, it was a great experience. If your ever in the area, be sure to check it out.

Joe and Marian Romano made my trip truly special this past weekend. The moment we checked in, Marian did everything in her power to make us feel at home and welcome. Her first question was, “Are you hungry?” and then proceeded to open the kitchen back up just to serve the two of us dinner at 9:30 at night.

The room we stayed in was absolutely fabulous and very cute. The bed was extremely comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was surprisingly strong considering the hotel is literally in the middle of nowhere.

We are in the restaurant 4 times and each meal was absolutely superb. Whether it was Joe or Marian doing the cooking, they did not disappoint. Great homestyle cooking but there were plenty of more upscale selections for the more refined palates.

Marian even let us use her two man kayak on Saturday and we spent about 4 hours just paddling around the reservoir and enjoying the gorgeous scenery.

All in all, this weekend with the Romano’s was nothing less than absolutely, breathtakingly idyllic and perfect. If you are staying in the Lowville area, you will absolutely not regret spending the time here at the Stillwater Hotel!
