My husband and I were looking for a place to stay in Queens, near our daughter's apartment in Sunnyside. I read about this hotel in the travel section of the New York Times a year or so ago. The hotel design is arty/industrial, with a comfy lobby and other spaces for hanging out on the main floor. Our room was clean, with rustic furniture including a comfortable bed, desk and chair, and dresser. The toilet and shower rooms were separate. The quirkiness extended, not just to the large graffiti-esque picture of Robby the Robot outside our room, and the "Good Vibes Only" poster over the bed, but the shower curtain that didn't quite extend to the floor, causing a flood if the shower head was not carefully angled, and a closet door that opened only a crack because of a too thick carpet runner. Plus, for some reason, only one side of the bed had a reading lamp and bedside table. A tasty continental breakfast could be had at the barista's in the lobby for an additional charge, but there are other good breakfast options nearby, a bodega on the corner, and Coffeed a block away. The subway stop for the M R trains was literally across the street, and the hotel is close walking distance to the Museum of the Moving Image and the shops and restaurants near it, although the hotel's immediate neighborhood is still industrial, which is cool! Not touristy (yet) with lots of European families in residence, it must be featured in foreign language guidebooks, which is a good sign to me! Ubers were plentiful, we never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a ride. Mundo was fun for a fancy dinner. The hotel is very close to Manhattan via train or taxi. Without question we will return when visiting our Queens-based daughter, our stay was unique, comfortable and convenient--and quirky.

If you want boring, off-white rooms with no character-this is NOT the place! We had our second stay at the Paper Factory, and I continue to be impressed. My girlfriend has family in the area, and, from now on, when we visit, this is our 'go-to'. This is a hotel that is rehabbed from an old paper factory and has lots of wood floors, concrete, neo-industrial funkiness and staff that will do anything to make your stay pleasant! The rooms are great, the common rooms better (how about a lounge with a huge flat screen AND a ping pong table????

The hotel is next to a subway stop, and within a couple blocks walk to the 7 train, with a 10-minute ride into mid-town. Prices are reasonable, and the bar/restaurant is seriously competent when it comes to cocktails and food.

All in all, if you are looking for a boutique experience and hope to avoid the plain old off-white rooms, then this is for you!

Room Tip: There is no bad room, but try for upper floors

Will recommend this hotel to all my friends! service very good, clean rooms and affordable. we stayed with 4 girls on 1 room (no ball room, but not mini either) in which the shower was seperate from the toilet + washing table. perfect to avoid queing in the morning :).

nice dinner & bar. breakfast very basic, but you can have cheap breakfast all over the city.

Metro stop right accross the hotel (R&M) which takes you to 5th Avenue in 3 stops.

Perfect if you want to be close to the city centre without staying in the noise.

can't really say something from the area cause we were there in winter and did not take the time to discover the area.
the hotel itself is beautiful, specially if you like the urban look

The hotel lobby gives you a feel like you just walked into a museum. The front desk had the typical New York attitude but overall likable. The room ohhhh the room. The Manhattan Loft was amazing. Not for the views but for the comfort. It's minimalist at best yet practical. They don't offer q-tips, however, they offer robes. The room has a small refrigerator, a microwave and local restaurants deliver. You will get a good nights sleep you barely hear the street noise. Getting to the city is quite easy just steps from the train. Another plus, the restaurant on site for dinner. Awesome cocktails. Look forward to staying there again.
