Spice is a mini-chain of Thai restaurants in NYC. I have been to numerous Thai restaurants in and around NYC and was curious about their food. On a recent evening in Long Island City (in the NYC borough of Queens) I stopped into the Spice restaurant and had dinner.
I found the decor to be pleasant but nothing cutting edge or special (such as Sea in Williamsburg, Brooklyn). The two-top tables were uncomfortably small, probably to accommodate more paying customers. Dishes arrived on over-sized plates, making it somewhat difficult to prevent knocking over a glass or a plate of food.
My greatest disappointment however was with the quality of the food. I found the food to be overly salty with way too much soy sauce on all dishes. Also the style of cooking was more reminiscent of Chinese food than authentic Thai food. I was surprised to encounter so much corn starch in the dishes.
In short, stay away from this place. You can easily do better in Long Island City. There are much better and more authentic Thai restaurants just steps away.
