“Good Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2012

Pros:
1. Clean rooms.
2. Nice view.
3. Safe neighborhood.
4. Close to subways.
Cons:
1. No microwave.
2. Refrigerator only for honor bar.
Rooms are small but very nice.
Check your reservation to see if breakfast is included. There are some places enroute to the subway station where you can pick up breakfast if not included. Breakfast at Dunkin Doughnuts nearby was under $5 for breakfast snadwich and coffee.
Parking was not an issue- I got a rental car from Enterprise for one day to drive around along Island. Rental car is less than a mile away.
I arrived on a Saturday night and was worried about the night club. We stayed on the 7th floor and it was not a issue.
Staff was very friendly and helpful.

We stayed at the Z Hotel for two nights in March and had a nice time. As with any newer hotel, there were a few unexpected hiccups, but the very friendly and helpful staff never failed to take care of us. The rooms were smaller than some, but certainly not too small. The skyline views from the room and the roof are incredible. Would love to return sometime when the rooftop lounge is open. This was a nice alternative to the much more expensiVe Manhattan hotels.

The Z Hotel is a real gem. It's conveniently located in Queens/Long Island City and can be easily reached via various subways and short walk of just a few minutes. The Hotel also offers a complimentary transfer into Manhattan. The shuttle operates once an hour. Depending on how many guests want to go into the city, it's either a mini bus or a 1970s style black limousine, so you definitely travel in style :) It drops you off at 5th Ave / Lexington Street. The last shuttle to the hotel leaves at 11.30 pm.
The hotel is just a few blocks away from the water front, all rooms face Manhattan, so no matter which room you stay, you have a breathtaking view on the skyline.
The rooms are comfortable, clean and beautifully furnished and come with free WiFi and a flatscreen TV. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
There's a bar / diner in the basement which serves great and cheap food. You have to try the sweet potatoe fries!
There is also a roof top teracce which unfortunately was still closed during our stay.
This is definitely a great place to stay and explore the city.

A friend and I, both students , recently stayed at the Z Hotel NY and let me tell you something! This is the best hotel to stay in while visiting NYC. FREE shuttle, FREE breakfast, FREE international/long distance/local calls(YES I said international, we called Australia for free!!! GREAT for tourists to call back home ) . BRAND NEW beds with no bed bugs!!! ( common problem in nyc). BEST view of the city hands down! ( Go on the roof, breathtaking view ) AMAZING customer service, the staff is incredibly and genuinely helpful. DELICIOUS food at the lounge ( you can even call from your room and they'll call you when the food is ready so you can go pick it up, that's if you don't feel like eating in the lounge ). We both loved the food they were serving at the lounge, some good comfort food ( mac & cheese, grilled cheese , cheeseburger , soup etc...). This hotel has amazing prices for what they give back. YES the room is not EXTREMELY big but for 2 people it was PERFECT. Heated tile floors ( a +++++++ ). Mini bar was great and not thaaaat expensive as you usually expect. ( Redbull 3$ great! ) . Look on expedia or booking.com etc.. for a great deal on this hotel.
I am recommending this hotel to anyone who is visiting NYC. Let's face it, who cares for a huge room? You are here to visit the city not the hotel room. I've already planned 2 trips back to NYC and this hotel. I am soooooo looking forward to it :)

Room Tip: For 2 people, we stayed in a Superior Twin Room and it was perfect!!!!! Huge closet!!

Recently stay at the Z hotel when I had an early flight out of LaGuardia airport. Great value for NYC. The rooms were small but had a great view of the Manhattan skyline. Free breakfast was nothing special, very basic. Many restaurants are a short taxi ride away. The hotel does not have parking, you must park on the street.

I really enjoyed my stay at Z-hotel. It was easy to get to and easy to get to Manhattan. It's in a working-class transitional neighborhood, but I felt safe, even walking from the subway at 3am.
The staff were very friendly and personable- they called the room to make sure we were in so they could bring up the complimentary bottle of wine.
The decor of the hotel is beautiful- modern but warm. The bed was comfy- although the room was smaller than I was expecting (and the bathroom is really small) the huge windows and view of the city made up for it.
The lounge had good food and I especially appreciated the free breakfast.
I have fond memories of my stay at Z-hotel and I'd love to come back...if I can afford it without a Groupon! :) Thank you!

We stayed here the night before the New York half marathon. We parked on the street directly across from the hotel. The hotel is on the outskirts of an up and coming neighborhood so we walked maybe 15 minutes to a great, trendy restaurant, "Shi" with a panoramic view of Manhattan, good food, service and good wine at a reasonable price.

Despite being a bit overwhelmed by a number of people arriving at the same time, the reception staff was friendly and efficient. Walking to our room, we were a bit surprised by a corridor that was like a long enclosed balcony so the noise of the bridge could be heard.
Once in the room, however, the noise was not a problem and we found the clever NY decor streamlined but fully functional. While this is not a five star hotel, it is modern and clean with a clever, original, very pleasant decor. The view of Manhattan from the large window is amazing.

We couldn't figure out how to turn on the air conditioning so I went down to the lobby and literally within a minute or two a friendly maintenance man came up to show me that the thermostat on the wall was for the heated bathroom floor (!) and the a/c controls were on the a/c unit.

Down in the lobby, a friendly bell boy asked if we had been to the roof terrace. Although the bar-I believe they have one in season-was not open, he suggested we check out the incredible view of Manhattan and Queens which we did.

The hotel is one stop via subway to Manhattan and there is a shuttle limo as well.

In the morning, we left early to go to the half marathon. We got in our car in front of the hotel and arrived at our destination on the upper East Side within five minutes via the bridge!

All in all, we had a pleasant experience and would stay again. This is a memorable hotel with NY character all its own.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a view.
