“GREAT FIND- CAN'T BEAT THIS HOTEL FOR A BUDGET STAY IN NYC.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2011

OVERALL RATING - 5 Star for Value and Location ... Great Hotel if you want to stay in a wonderful hotel in NYC on a budget.

LOCATION-The best location you could ask for in visiting NYC. Subway is 10 Min walk from the hotel. One stop and you are in Mid-Town Manhattan, Times Square 10 mins, 15 mins to 34th Street etc. If you need to take a Taxi back or forth to the hotel, the cost is very reasonable especially late at night since the hotel is just right across the bridge. Also, you will always have a Taxi at your fingertips to get into the City as the cabs all stop at the gas station next to the hotel to gas up. Super convenient. No having to wait forever for a taxi and having to tip Bell Hop etc.

ROOMS - The room was very large. Bed was comfortable with lots of pillows. Stayed in room with Jacuzzi which worked wonderfully. There are rooms that supposedly have great views of Manhattan. One drawback, the room walls are thin so you hear the the guests next door evenif they get only little noisy. Same thing if the people are hanging out in the corridors and talking.

HOTEL AREA: The area around the hotel is very industrial. However, I can tell you that this is an up and coming area in New York, as more and more hotels and apts are being built in the area to take advantage of the cheaper rates compared to Manhattan. There are super luxurious hotels being built in the area that will rival all the fancy boutiques hotels in Manhattan at ½ the price. In 5 years this is going be super hot area. Also, right next to the hotel there is a gas station convenience store that is like a mini supermarket where you get everything need, snacks, drinks, hot food, fresh salads and fruit plates etc. at prices that are much cheaper than you pay in the city...Can't Beat it..

STAFF: Staff was very helpful. Checking in and out was great. We got to the hotel early and our room was not ready. They don’t have a separate room to keep your luggage so you had to leave it in the lobby area but it was nonetheless safe. We then went into Manhattan did some shopping and they had us all pre-checked in when we returned. Also, they arranged a very convenient and cheap car service for transport to JFK Airport. Paid $40 which would be $60-$80 with other car services and more by Taxi. Plus the car was at the hotel within 5 mins after call to front desk.

BREAKFAST: Yes, this is the only drawback to the hotel. The breakfast is very chaotic, limited choices; long queue and wait for getting food items; some of the food items are pre-fab like the egg and orange juice (OJ was in horrible); waffle mix was horrible plus they need more waffle machines. Also, the breakfast service was done by one staff member which is not adequate to enough for keeping up with getting the food out which adds to the already long wait sometimes.

Nonetheless, the muffins, pastries, sausage and coffee make for a good start to the morning...If only the wait was not that long.

I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO EVERYONE.

We arrived 2 hours before official check in but was pleasantly surprised to be able to check in straight away (this may have just been lucky!). Our room was on the 7th floor and had a City View which we had paid for when booking our trip - great view of Manhattan and the bridge from our window. Room was really clean and bed very big (King) and comfortable with ample pillows and bedding. TV large plasma which my partner enjoyed! Shower lovely and good mirror/sink area with hairdryer. Also microwave and fridge in the room which was really good to store all the chocs and cakes we brought from the garage next door! Our room was cleaned every day and toiletries replaced. The free breakfast was a little disappointing and was a bit of a mad frenzy on most mornings - had to wait for free table on 2 of our mornings - there is only 1 member of staff whose job it is to replace food/drinks and he runs around like a headless chicken, no wonder he is so miserable. No sooner had he put food into the baskets or trays - people seemed to grab it like there was a famine - people grabbing 2 or 3 bananas at a time with no consideration for others. Food was a bit hit and miss - orange juice not real, waffle mix horrible, eggs plastic/microwaved - yoghurts and donuts nice though and plenty of bagels/bread. Cereal choice a bit poor - cornflakes or fruit loops, did see some instant hot oat sachets 1 morning. However, I managed fine on what was available and perfectly satisfied. The location of the hotel is fantastic, a stones throw from the Queensboro Subway station which serves N, Q and 7 trains which stop at most main stations in Manhattan. Just a few stops from 5th Avenue, Times Square etc. Just brilliant, we brought a metro card each which cost $29 for 7 days and well worth the money - can also catch local buses. The hotel also has free Wi-Fi which is great. The fitness room is 1 area of the hotel I never got to, all the walking seemed sufficient exercise for what I needed! Overall the hotel is great value for money and I would definitely stay there again.

5 mins from subway and 5 mins from Central Park, 10 mins to Time sq on subway excellent location especially with the stunning views of the manhattan sky line.

Good size rooms and great shower, very comfortable. Breakfast was a bit mad but a good start to the day. Great value, helpful staff and great location would stay again.

Location: The hotel is located in Queens, which makes it much more affordable than hotels in Manhattan. Just within 5 minutes walking distance you find two subway stations: Queenborough Plaza, E-M-R lines and Queensbridge 7 &F line. Within 15 minutes you will be in the heart of Manhattan.

Front desk: Very efficient with superfast check-in and check-out.

Room: Nice state-of-the-art room. Clean bathroom

Breakfast: Only skip a visit to the breakfast room. The only argument is that breakfast is free. But atmosphere is really poor, not enough seats, poor quality of very limited food offerings.

Room Tip: Check whether a room with Manhattan view is free.

Spent three nights here for Thanksgiving visit to NYC using two rooms for family. Price was reasonable for NYC. Rooms were clean but a bit worn. DO NOT EXPECT FREE PARKING but there is a 24 hour lot on the next block that charges $15/day. If you plan to use the subway (2 block walk to the ELL) then this is a real bargain since Manhattan hotels charge $35+ and you usually need to tip valet. Subway trip is $2.25 so buy the multi-trip metro pass. Subway to 42nd street is a bout 15 minutes. Free WIFI that was not at turtle-speed. Free breakfast - bagels, breads, donuts, yogurt, fresh fruit, cereal, eggs (plastic) & sausage, waffle maker, juices, coffee/tea/milk - pretty decent and maintained. This will be considered for our next trip to the city.

Location is great and close to subway to get into Manhattan. Breakfast is continental and with a full hotel was a very messy affair as it was self-service - staff members were very scarce. The room was big and had a wonderful view across Manhattan. The area which the hotel is in is not great, but not terrible either - its a developing area with new hotels and apartment buildings starting to go up.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking Manhattan on the higher floors are great!

I had the bad idea of planning to go to NY during the week-end of the Marathon, but was lucky enough to find this hotel. The room prices were very high for the quality but it was even worse elsewhere.
The location is not bad. There is nothing to do around the hotel but the subway station is not far and it is easy to go to Manhattan.
Before going, I read negative critics about reception and breakfast, so I knew what to expect. My check-in was ok. No welcome (as far as I remember) and no smile, a little bit too serious for receptionists but it was ok. During my stay I have asked some information and help and did not have to complain. My check-out was a little bit more frustrating. There were 3 available receptionists behind the desk. One person took care of my check-out. However at the same time she also answered additional questions from another client. So I was handled my prepaid bill without a look. Then I had to wait patiently that she finished with the other clients to ask some information for which the reply was not really of help. I do not think this is well managed and polite.
The breakfast room is very small and people have to queue to take coffee, donuts and cereals. This is not a good start for the day.
Personally I will not come back if I can stay elsewhere.
