“Convenient commute to Manhattan”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2011

This hotel is in a quiet, seemingly safe area near the Queensboro Bridge that has several medium range newer hotels. It's only 1 block from the subway/trains and the parking is free - but on the on the street. We had to walk 1 .5 blocks with all our luggage. Our car was parked for 2 days with no incidents. The VERY limited parking at the hotel fills up quickly in the afternoons and actually blocked the ability to unload luggage at the hotel doors. There is a courtesy luggage check area in the lobby for those checking in early or leaving later.

We found the location ideal for accessing Manhattan without the hassle of driving. Use of the 24 hr. trains/subway does require some physical exertion as the rapid transit system seems to be either elevated or well below ground - with stairs as the only access in almost all locations. (Never did find a working escalator or elevator).

Ask for an upper level room with a city view (of downtown Manhattan) if possible. The room was clean and the very comfortable bed had all freshly-washed linens and coverings on it. The breakfast area was constantly crowded but that's how we met some interesting fellow travellers. One can always take a tray up to the room for more privacy. There were some hot items offered. There is a 24-hour gas station next door that sells a wide variety of reasonably-priced food and snacks.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on an upper level that has a good cityview (of Manhattan).

Stayed for 9 nights so really got a feel for the hotel & area. The price was right. A bargain for NYC and short walk to subway made this super convenient. Was nervous at first about the neighborhood but never had a problem even coming back from the subway at 10-11pm. Was happy this was a newer hotel but surprised by the amount of wear & tear already showing. Very busy place. High hopes but disappointed with experience.

Fantastic view of NYC lights from west side of hotel upper floors. Breakfast was fine for grabbing something occasionally. Definately not what you'd want to eat 9 days in a row.

We tipped the houskeeping staff very well for the first 5 days but then started noticing the room looking like it had never been vacuumed. Bathroom floor not cleaned either.

The biggest problem we ran into was our bathroom toilet running (cascading noisily) for 5 days & nights in a row. Immediately called front desk. They sent up the maintenance man/breakfast bar refiller with a new rubber part. He disappeared in the bathroom for 5 minutes. Said "now it will work". Left. Flushed it once and it began the continuous running again for the next 5 days. Lifted the lid to see same old grimy parts still in place. Never put in new part. Called back down to front desk was promised someone would take care of it. Never happened. Each day asked several people. They would look at each other and talk in their language and nothing... Ended up having to use ear plugs with the door shut every night. It was that noisy. It also made the toilet difficult to flush since there wasn't any water in the tank it was literally pouring down the drain.

The final night was checking out at 11pm since had to leave for the airport at 3am, brought up the issue to the clerk, (no name tag, they rarely had tags) who ignored me. He wouldn't even look up! "Excuse me! Will you be doing anything about this? And, why hasn't anything been done for 5 days?" He looked down again for a while then finally looked up and said "Do you want to change rooms?" Seriously?

Fairly priced at $160 per night for two queen beds. The hotel was modern, the beds were comfy and the room was spacious.

Location was really good! Close to 3 subway lines; purple 7, orange and yellow NQ. Short subway ride away to manhattan and for a lower price.

Bathroom had some mold around the tub and the shower pressure was weak.

The staff is somewhat nice but that they weren't that helpful. The luggage storage is basically a corner in the lobby... But they will put it laptop behind the checkin counter. We didn't lose anything bit felt unease just leaving it there.

This hotel is in a great location, less than 10 minutes from two different subway stations that can take you into Manhattan in about 20 minutes.
The view from the west side of the hotel is amazing at night, with Midtown lit up right before you.
I'll definitely stay here again.

We were very pleased with our three night stay at the Country Inn & Suites in Long Island City. Although not in Manhattan, it may as well be; midtown is one stop away from the Queensboro Plaza subway stop which is just a leisurely two block stroll from the hotel. Request a city view room -- the Manhattan skyline and Queensboro Bridge are well worth it. While the breakfast room is a bit small and can be crowded at peak times, breakfast in your room is a nice option. The hotel is clean, the staff is friendly -- and the front desk has an endless supply of cookies.

Room Tip: Room tip: Get a city view room on an upper floor.

Our one night stay was worth the price. Large clean comfortable room and a good continental breakfast with a good size sitting room and TV, The surrounding neighborhood is not the best and there is only street parking, unless your lucky enough to get one of their 7 parking spaces out front. I was lucky enough to get a spot around the corner and taxi'd to the city in the evening. I did make the mistake of calling the front desk for a taxi and they call a limo service which charged too much. There is a taxi company right across the street so go out and hail your own taxi. It is very convienient to the city just over the 59th st bridge.

Only downside is the battle for breakfast in the morning. You literally have to fight your way through to get some food or somewhere to sit. Not serviced by staff. Very very unorganized and very unprofessional "people" refilling food when necessary!
