Mecca for hipster/artist. The building itself is rustic, if that is your thing you will love this place. I personally am not a big fan of modern art. Some of the exhibits were interesting, others could be garbage... There was a dome outside and I really didn't understand it's meaning or purpose...

One of the best museums in New York for contemporary art. They usually have a huge variety of exhibits running simultaneously, so you'll always find something interesting. They do a lot of other events there too, like book fairs, concerts, dance parties... I've never been disappointed.

Imagine an old public school, with its narrow hallways, tiny, cramped, ill-lit rooms, inadequate toilet facilities, and poor heating, cooling, and ventilation systems. Now imagine someone turning an old public school into an art museum after barely making any effort to address or correct any of these shortcomings, and you have MOMA PS 1.

This weekend we visited MOMA PS 1 to see the Mike Kelley show, which was great, but difficult to enjoy in a facility so cramped that it was often difficult to read or even locate the wall labels. Some rooms were so crowded that it was almost impossible to avoid tumbling into the art installations. The ancient radiators were cranked up full blast and the temperature must have been 80 throughout the building, which was uncomfortable for everyone since the tiny coat check is hidden in the basement and not really adequate to serve all of the museum's guests. Water fountains were few and far between, and some were out of service, so viewing all four floors of the exhibit felt like some kind of forced death march through the desert. And the toilet situation! I think there are maybe three toilet stalls on each floor of the museum, the bathrooms are unisex, and they are so cramped that there is really no where to wait for one of the stalls to empty. Suffice to say that the restrooms are smelly, filthy, and awkward for everyone.

I guess if MOMA insists on relegating really great exhibits to this space, sometimes we will have to suck it up and go here. My advice is to try to go on a week day when the museum may be a bit less busy. Also, unless you are a huge fan of organ meats and expensive French food, I would advise eating before you go, since the M. Wells Dinette in the museum specializes in food in the $20+ range with lots of brains, livers, hearts, and tartares on offer.

Very interesting place but I would advice to go there after Christmas and New Year because at this time are to many people and is difficult to see everything.
