i'm not sure where the other reviewers of this hotel stayed...because this is not a 4 star hotel. it is a 4 star motel. i chose the ravel based on the reviews here and on hotels.com and we were completely disgusted and disappointed with our experience.

walking up to the ravel on tuesday july 10th we noticed it looked like a motel from the outside with a good paint job. upon entering you feel better about what you saw outside because the lobby is pretty, but looks can be deceiving... you walk down the hall to the elevator and this is where everything begins to unravel. hmmm....word play...unravel...the ravel...interesting...but i digress.

all of the floors are uneven and the floors that are tiled (without carpet) are cracked. the elevators need paint jobs and the #1 was missing on the elevator. the walls in the rooms are dirty and need to be painted. we felt like we were in unkempt buildings in the slums. that was day #1. when we woke up to get dressed on morning #2 at 7am there was a big bug in the bathroom! ( (we have pictures of all of this) we put a glass over it so management would be able to see it & we called the front desk and asked them to make sure the room was cleaned by the time we got back and the bug removed. the girl who answered told us to stop by the desk on the way out. we did. she assured us the room would be cleaned by the time we got back. i asked to speak with a manager and she said, "there's no manager in today." i said ok but please leave a note for a manager to call me when one does come in.

we arrived back at the room at 6:30pm on day #2. imagine our surprise when we got upstairs and our room door was wide open because the cleaning man was just getting started on cleaning our room! mind you we left that morning at 8:15am. why are you guys just cleaning our room when we left at 8:15am, made sure we told you we were leaving and you guaranteed the room would be cleaned and ready???

we went back downstairs and they apologized for the inconvenience and offered us a suite. we wanted to talk to a manager but again...there was no manager on site. we accepted the offer for the suite...but the joke was on us...again.

we entered the room and the sink was directly to the left just past the closet...literally six steps into the room. behind that was the toilet and the shower stall. they each had doors but they did not go up to the ceiling. the bathtub was free standing and opposite the toilet and the shower stall. there was no door or walls separating the bathroom from the bed and the tv, the living area. suffice it to say, when you or your significant other used the bathroom you can hear and smell whatever is taking place & that is unfortunate as i'm sure you can imagine. your only escape is the balcony. and when you or your significant other take a shower you can't hear the tv. you have to turn the tv all the way up to drown out the sound of the shower. i'm not sure what architect, designer, or hotel owner thought this design was a good idea or even sexy but it is an epic fail! a bathroom should be enclosed!

when we checked out around 230am on thursday july 12th i made sure to tell the desk to have a manager call me. klester, the gm, called me on friday july 13th. i called him back on saturday july 14th and i haven't heard from him again.

if you don't care about cleanliness or the upkeep (elevators, hallways, etc) of the hotel and if you don't mind staying at a motel then this is the place for you. if you have higher standards avoid here at all costs!

My husband and I stayed at the Ravel from 31st October to 4th November 2011 and found it a great base for touring the city. I was 13 weeks pregnant and valued the comfortable beds and spacious bathroom in our Queen room. The room was looking a little tired and possibly needed a bit of a revamp but it served its purpose for us. We didn't experience any noise from the nightclub, even though there were a couple of Halloween parties whilst we were there AND we were right across from the lift.
The shuttle service could have been a little more organised e.g. running every hour or half hour whether people call for a lift or not but we had no issues walking back to the hotel for change one evening (some great graffitti along the way).
Ideal base for those who want a decent hotel but don't want to may Manhattan prices - after all, if you stay in Manhattan you don't get to see the skyline at night!

On arrival we were greeted by a smiling welcoming member of staff. We checked in and were offered an upgrade to the room we had booked in response to our web request for a tiny extra fee. Clearly they pay attention to their guests needs.

Our room was clean, stylish and great value for money.

The shuttle service to the subway station was just perfect for starting our day's activities, helpful advice was always on hand too.

The breakfast upstairs is well worth it, a good variety from cereals, toast and cooked bacon and eggs, as well as juices and hot beverages, all buffet style.

We certainlty would stay at the Ravel again as it was perfect for our needs.

Room Tip: Go for a room away from the lifts as there is a club upstairs and would get a little noisy. If you're a smoker, choose a room with a balcony to save you having to take a trip downstairs to the outside smoking area in your pijamas.

Fantastic views, great food, friendly staff and, although the area is 'industrial,' it felt very safe. Rooms, although slightly worn, were beautifully decorated with all services you would expect. The view from the balcony, which I believe is available from every room, was incredible. Subway to Manhattan a short walk or shuttle car away.

My wife and I stayed at the Ravel on 18th of June and we enjoyed our holiday very much, the hotel is lovely and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean and are furnished to a high standard. The hotel facilities are excellent and the check in process was very efficient. Room service was always on time and the menu selection was great.Breakfast was good and simple but dinner was excellent. Subway system from the hotel was so easy to get to and the shuttle service they offered was helpful as well when we didnt want to walk.  The music up at their rooftop was very entertaining and we definitely enjoyed ourselves. Hopefully next year we will have some time off to revisit Ravel.

Room Tip: King penthouse has a beautiful view and its very modern/spacious.
