My boyfriend staid here a number of times in the past and never had any issues, but this time was horrible. He booked a penthouse the day before we were scheduled to stay at the hotel and asked two specific questions before booking - would the rooftop be open for dinner and dancing all night? Would we be able to reserve the room he had in the past with the chaise lounge? The answer to both questions was Yes.

Upon arrival we were given a room without the chaise lounge and a moldy smelly shower. The manager was nice enough to move us to the room originally requested, but the new room was not only gross, but dangerous. The toilet didn't flush, the light above the shower didn't work and both the light above the shower and toilet not only were falling out of the ceiling, but neither of them had caulking, waterproofing, or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters, which prevents people from electrical shock and is against safety code. Th only good thing was the balcony and view - great view of the bridge, but the city was obstructed by some kind of tall stacks.

Once we dropped off our luggage we decided to walk up to the rooftop to have a look at where we had hoped to have dinner. Once we got up there we found out the deck was closed for a wedding and wouldn't be open to the public until 11pm. So clearly the person who took the phone reservation for our room and answered these two questions had absolutely no idea what they were talking about when they answered Yes.

On top of the room being less than adequate, when we arrived back to the hotel around midnight from being in the city, the elevator was full of skanks going up to the rooftop bar, and our entire room was vibrating from the base of the bar music. We asked the front desk what time the bar closed and if a manager was available because we had had enough, but unfortunately we were told the music would stop around 2:40am and no manager was available that he'd be in at 7am to speak with him then. We sat in the room watching tv hoping to block out the noise, but where unsuccessful. It finally spotted around 2:30am and we were able to go to sleep.

The next morning we spoke to the manager who was less than helpful. His response to the rooftop being closed was "we can't control who books weddings; it opened at 11 you could have gone up there then." Obviously you can't control the booking of a wedding, but what you can control is having your lobby representatives lie to potential guests when asked questions about property amenities and a wedding isn't a last minute thing, they new it was going to happen and should have told us when we asked if we could dine there.

His response to the unflushable toilet and the lights was absolutely nothing. He ended up giving my boyfriend the room for a regular room rate, but that is far from acceptable.

If you're looking for a place to relax and get a good night sleep, spend the extra money and stay somewhere else. If you're looking for a place to party this is the place for you!

Me (23) and my partner (21) stayed at this hotel for the 2nd leg of our 10 night trip to the USA, we spent 5 nights in Boston and 5 Nights here in Hotel Ravel NYC in May 2012.
We were extremely excited to be staying here as we were in a b&b in Boston and this was our treat. From the website of this hotel we under the impression this was almost a zen hotel, very calm and tranquil. We were very wrong, very disappointed.
Yes, the view is stunning from the roof and I cant imagine another place for a view like it, however after spending a long day exploring Manhattan all I wanted was a quiet night to sleep in a comfy bed.Unfortunately our "upgraded" room was straight opposite the lifts so we had that noise to deal wth. If the guests in the next room moved our room felt like it was shaking! (paper thin walls we could hear their conversations)
Our first night we were kept awake til gone 4am by the noise on the roof and drunk guests slamming doors and shouting, we didnt complain as we were told upon check in that the penthouse 808 was open until 3am, We did not expect it to be that loud when we were only on the 3rd floor and it turned out that everynight was extremely noisey until the early hours.
I didnt feel safe in the room as there was always people directly outside, someone even tried to get in a few times!!

The actual room was a nice size and the bed was amazingly soft, the shower room did look lovely but did have a rather bad smell coming from the shower, the walls had lots of scratches and scuffs on them and there was a plug socket hanging from the wall!

The staff were pleasant and never rude.
We did not try any food in this hotel, theres so much in and around Manhattan there was no reason to eat here.
The hotel is in a prime location with several metro stops walking distance, and silvercup studios literally 5mins up the road.

I would recommend this hotel to a couple who were coming to NYC to party not for those who were siteseeing as this isnt a hotel to get sleep in.

Overall no sleep meant we couldnt enjoy NYC :(

Room tip: If you want to get a decent sleep, stay elsewhere.

I spent a night at the Ravel and enjoyed the accomodations - not luxurious but roomier than most NYC hotels. Staff is especially helpful, accomodating and friendly - shuttle service is important benefit. Views of NYC are spectacular - lovely rooftop restaurant for breakfast, dinner and drinks. Location makes Manhattan readily accessible by cab or easy subway ride. Don't take a room near the elevators - was noisy. Toiletries provided are good quality too.

for your first visted to NYC this has to place to see . it stayed a few years and to be honest ill never forget it.there was a small mix up when i checked in but the manger looked after it and upgraded the room to the penthouse it was unreal. the view from the hotel was the best iv saw and iv travelled the world you can see the the whole skyline of NYC.

the room was really big and up to date and the staff were helpful . a bit out from the city but there is subway near the hoteland takes 15 mins to get into the city if your out late at night and want a taxi it only cost 15/20 dollars to get back which is good.

iv since being to NYC and stayed in the city but for first time visters go here trust me

Very modern and boutique sized hotel in LIC has great views of Manhattan and the Queensboro bridge. Rooms are very spacious for NYC and all the amenities in the room and decor feel brand new. The hotel itself offers wine by the glass in the lobby 24 hours a day, through their fancy wine machines. The restaurant at the top of the hotel is called penthouse 808. Restaurant has the best views of manhattan, attentive service and tasty food, espcially the fried rice and sushi! The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this place to stay if you are looking to stay in LIC!

Room tip: Ask for the 4th floor. This is the highest floor you can stay on.
