“My "nice restaurant" go-to.”
Reviewed June 23, 2014

I've almost become a regular over at Sugo. It started because we were amazed at the menu and quality of food, we keep going back because the staff, Alan and Zack specifically, are amazing at what they do. We've never been disappointed. If you're looking for a great dinner in a restaurant that doesnt turn into a club once the sun goes down then this is your place. Should be #1 in LB.

“My Regular Spot on Friday Nights”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

My pal Brian works behind the bar on Fridays. I usually hit this spot around 5 or 6 pm. Food is fabulous, and it's a great place to unwind from a busy week. Also has a fantastic ambiance if you want to bring a date here. Stop at the bar and tell Brian that Jamie sent you!

“Wow, the lamb burgers!”
Reviewed April 17, 2014

In all the years we've lived in Long Beach we had our first visit to Sugo tonight and loved it. While we found the menu limited (guy we assumed was the owner told us they were just printed) and prices a but in the high side, they had a special on the menu of lamb burgers that were OUTSTANDING. The seasoning was delicious and the burger didn't need any of the sauce that came with it. Also ordered the GSR burger which also was delicious. That burger was a perfect size (slightly bigger than a slider)but overpriced at $14.95 for the size of the burger and the 10 or so yucca fries that came with it.

However, everything was excellent, including the bread basket and appetizer salad that was brought for us to share. I wouldn't hesitate to go back and if they keep that lamb burger we'll co e back way more often!

One thing is that the service was very odd. There were two young kids standing in the back but the owner took all of our orders and came by several times to check on us. The kids seemed to just bus the table, which seems like a bit of a waste of staff. Then another kid cane out of the back to deliver the food. Just seemed odd.

“have had great food but too unorganized and inconsistent”
Reviewed March 6, 2014

When they first opened, I had a couple of excellent meals here. The last year or so though, when they just have too much going on, too many menu choices, too many tables situated in hard to reach corners for staff and one dish may be excellent and your companion's really bad. It isn't the taste so much - it is consistency. Recent visit of paella with lobster tail - NO lobster in the shell or dish to be found. Table next to us had same problem. My husband's scallops tasted great, but were cold. The prices are the highest in Long Beach, so no excuses for mediocrity.
The bus people were excellent and apologetic - I asked them to get me another glass of wine and they said they couldn't do that, only the server. Who we saw 2x - once to order, once to give us bill. We waited at the bar before being seated and it took 10 minutes to get a drink.
Would definitely have drank more if allowed. They were on food network show where the guys said to focus on management, and they really should because this could be the best restaurant in Long Beach with excellent food and atmosphere if they could get the service and consistency together. Even then the prices should come down a few dollars
