Owner description: A seven building, three site, campus of museums, historic houses and interactive centers preserving and promoting the history of Niagara County and the Erie Canal through exhibits, programming, collaboration and more.

This attraction has 2 main sites in Lockport:
215 Niagara street: The Outwater Memorial Building (5 buildings): History mostly about Niagara County.
24 Church street: The Erie Canal Discovery Center: History mostly about the Erie Canal and the Flight of Five locks. (the main picture shown on TripAdvisor is the Erie Canal Discovery Center).
When parked at the Discovery Center, you can walk to the locks that are nearby and also stroll along the canal.
The museum is really worth the small charge they ask for.
Guided tour is very educational and interesting.
The history of the Erie Canal and the Flight of Five are facinating.
You must visit Lockport and especially those historic sites when in the Buffalo-Niagara area.
Very interesting little town !

Small but very informative , Loved the interactive movie and introduction via the packet boat demo / ride. Very informative with voices of various people on and off the canal.
Very much worth the minimal donation.

The video was very informative. The rest was hands on aimed at understanding the lock system. 45 minutes is more than enough time to view the exhibits.

The Niagara County Historical Museum has a wonderful collection of Native American raised beadwork created by artisans from the local Tuscarora tribe. The Tuscarora are part of the six nations which makes up the larger group known as the Iroquois. They reside on a reservation located in Niagara County and are known for their unique form of raised beadwork. This is beadwork like none other you have ever seen.

Rosemary Hill, master beader and Tuscarora Native, teaches several classes a year in this technique at the Museum. For anyone who loves to sew and is interested in learning this unique form of Native American beading the Museum is the place to be. You can contact them for a current class schedule.

I was born, raised, and continue to live in this corner of Western New York State. A visit to the museum is always a great and fun learning experience. The museum is well curated and offers many aspects of the development of our area. It also highlights the many, many inventions and innovations created here that have enhanced our world. It is an easy stop for 10 minutes or 2 hours. You will leave amazed.
