Ste. Marie Among the Iroquois

There are brochures printed by the visitor bureau advertising the Ste. Marie Among the Iroquois. Also, when you drive past the attraction, there are no signs stating it is closed. It was disappointing to go out of our way to see this only to find it was not open and nothing anywhere said it was closed.

This is a recently accurately rebuilt French Fort bearing the name in English that the French gave to the fort in an effort to secure their "claims" on this part of North America and to dominate the fur trade. Take a trip back in history and learn how the wily French subverted the loyalties of the "Iroquois" or Haudenosaunee Indian Confederation and almost caused the triumph of the British during the Revolutionary War as a result.

We are very sorry to see this excellent Histoical Attraction close. My children and grandchildren enjoyed their many visits thru the years. Once run by volunteers of the Friends Of Historic Onondaga Lake
( FOHOL ) this site has been closed by the county. They have moved a county office into most of it. I have meet people that stopped there ready to visit and found the Mission closed.

Went here with my kids. For the price to get in you would expect more than what is there. Afterwards I found out that it was not even the original fort. The original fort was at a different location in Liverpool. Don't waste your time or money.

Offers a more "connected" or intimate view of local history from before teh arrival of whites in the area through the early industrial development. Some of the displays invite you to feel a little more like part of the story than many more sterile retelllings or displays in some small museums.
