If you are planning a trip to Lily Dale, one of the guest homes I would recommend is Jan and Jay's Lakeside Cottage. The house is neat as a pin and it is air conditioned, unlike some of the other accommodations in the town. It is located in close proximity to Assembly Hall, which is the location of many workshops offered in Lily Dale, as well as the Sunflower Restaurant and Cup of Joe coffee shop. Other shops are also easy to walk to from this home.
What you can expect at Jan and Jay's- check in time is 2PM, check out at 11AM. There is a full kitchen with several refrigerators in the basement of the home. In addition, the basement has a couch, television and several tables for eating meals. There are also two separate showers (one also doubles as a rest room), in the basement area. Visitors can walk out of the basement into the backyard of the house, which has many chairs in which to laze around and watch various birds and boats on the lake. There is also a canoe which can be used by visitors.
The first floor of the home has an enclosed porch that visitors may also use. The second floor of the home has the bedrooms, as well as a large bathroom, which has a clawfoot bathtub, but no shower. There are fans in the bedrooms, as well as windows that may be opened, to help keep things cool when it gets muggy. A bonus for business travelers- free high speed Internet.
My overall stay was a good one; the home owner couldn't be more pleasant, and the house was nice and clean. Two things detracted from my stay: 1.) my bed, which was an antique, and was very squeaky every time I moved and 2.) I couldn't lock my bedroom door from the outside, so I had to keep my valuables locked in my car during the day,
My advice for the weary, and possibly achy, traveler is to request a nice firm bed (and non-squeaky) when placing reservations. In addition, unless you can sleep through anything, ask for a bedroom that isn't next to the bathroom, as you'll hear doors opening and closing at all hours. Also, if you're a business traveler, bring an adapter for your laptop powercord; the outlets in the bedrooms are only 2-pronged.
