“Lovely visit at the Barton”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2013

My wife and I heard about the Barton so we decided to spend 2 nights recently to celebrate our anniversary. The Barton was built just recently but the decor is from the 1800s, which helps give it a history theme. History buffs will like this place. The food in the dinning room was very good and fairly priced, especially the pot pie which was outstanding. They told me the chef that night was Vern. The lobby was similar to what you'd find in a B&B, but way larger. It was a comfortable place where you could read a book. All-in-all, this was a very nice, which we plan to visit again.

Room Tip: The three top rooms have a balcony and a great view of the river.

Saw this on groupon and thought we would give it a try. We are local and have seen the lobby at one of the Christmas Show of Homes tours that Lewiston hosts annually. We were pleasantly surprised at how lovely our room was which had a great river view. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Also took advantage of the spa and enjoyed a couples massage. Have suggested to friends to do the same.

My cousin and her husband recently came to Lewiston for a quiet couples retreat. I suggested the Barton Hill. They were wow'd that the hotel was already decked for the holidays. Their room overlooked the Niagara River and their hotel dinner was definitely worth it. They had traveled all day and arrived in Lewiston tired, wanting to just snug in so dinner in the hotel was lovely. The staff was so accommodating. We sometimes take the hotel for granted because we live here but we were so happy we could recommend the Barton Hill and that they lived up to their advertising campaign that touts them as "close to the Falls but Miles from the Everyday". Our cousins will definitely return again. PS...they had a lovely dinner in town the following night at Casa Antica. Another reason to return to Lewiston!

Room Tip: The ones overlooking the Niagara River are the best.

This was our first visit and was bought on a voucher. The package included breakfast, a $20 dinner voucher and $30 at the Seneca casino. We were upgraded to a river view room on the second floor. I believe there are only four floors. Our room reminded us of an European trip years ago, spacious room and bathroom, four poster bed, fireplace and large windows overlooking the Niagara river. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable though the furniture is a little tired. We did not have dinner here, so no comment, but we did have the breakfast the following morning. There was very little staff, but no one was needed! The buffet was simple, but perfect. Hot egg dish, with ham and bacon, delicious, warm scones, cold cereals, yogurt, juice, tea, coffee, etc... Staff was friendly, polite and offered to put our car underground at no charge. Besides the Inn, this is a lovely area/town to visit, with great shops, restaurants and bakeryThis was an excellent value at $99, and I highly recommend a visit.

Room Tip: Worth the upgrade to a river view room. Typically about $30.

my GF and I purchased a groupon and decided to give it a try, go see the holiday lights in Canada and relax for a weekend. Check in was fine, got to out room, while it was big it was very cold. The groupon included a $30 dinner voucher, we went to check it out, after waiting 20 minutes standing (not even a bar to sit have a cocktail and wait) and the place was not full... we were finally seated, the watress never came for another 20 minutes we decided to leave...
There was an instruction on how to opperate the tempature yet that did not work, turned on the fireplace very litte heat. We called down to front desk twice to figure out the heat... no answer 2 times. We should have just left and went home... folks avoid this place no matter what the deal is

Room Tip: avoid at all costs

This hotel has a huge potential to be something great. Unfortunately, the service here was poor. The hotel itself is in a terrific location with a beautiful view. Once inside, the flaws begin. Poor craftsmanship with half finished details. The rooms are large, but poorly lit and lacking general items like hangers, alarm clocks, irons, and fridges. There were no ice makers in the hotel for guests to use. We had to call the front desk for ice buckets to be delivered. We stayed for a wedding and asked for an iron. We were told they did not have any at that time and waited over 2 hours to be able to press our clothing. We were informed on the website an IPod docking station would be in the room. When we arrived, no such device was there. When we asked for one after checking the room out, we waited a day and a half and were given an old alarm clock that hummed when it was plugged in. We requested ice be brought to our room to chill the bottle of champagne on our mantle while we were out one evening. The front desk said they would take care of this . Unfortunately, when we returned 3 hours later, our bottle was warm and no ice had been delivered to the room as our wine bucket was completely dry. We had a wonderful weekend with our friends at their wedding, but this hotel did not add anything to our great weekend. I do hope this hotel can improve, but I for one, will not be returning.

My wife wanted to pay a return visit to the area to see her family. She has always wanted to stay at the Barton Hill Hotel. I travel internationally for business and I'm put off by "quaint" but agreed to her request. I admit, my wife made a good choice. The Niagara River is within view of the hotel's front door it's a short walk to the village's shops and restaurants. The hotel's staff was very helpful (I'm thankful they're not union robots like most hospitality businesses in NY!). Our room was large, clean, comfortable...and I slept like a baby! Kudos to Diane and her staff. I enjoyed my stay and would return again to the area if my wife lets me stay at Barton Hill.
