“Great Home and Hosts”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

We travel to the Finger Lakes often and are pleased to have this little gem to add to our places to stay. The location is ideal. It is a pretty, little ride about 15-20 minutes north of Ithaca close enough to go back in to town for sightseeing, shopping or dining. It is also ideally situated to make short trips to some of the other beautiful Finger Lake towns and wineries. The inkeepers were very gracious and Donna makes sure your stay is luxurious with fresh cut bouquets in each room, delicious gourmet breakfasts and beautifully appointed rooms. Looking forward to another visit to their bed and breakfast establishment.

Perfect place to stay for a weekend getaway. Just 20 minutes from Downtown Ithaca, and close to wineries and hiking trails. The entire Inn is nicely renovated and spotless! The homemade breakfast was a treat - and different each day. Donna went out of her way to make us feel welcome.

The Federal House is a beautiful inn and a perfect location to explore the waterfall region!

The inn is furnished and decorated in a very elegant and tasteful style! I just loved the shower and the fluffy towels! Everything is clean and tidy!

The breakfast was delicious! Freshly baked bread, fresh fruits, waffles, tasty egg muffins etc. and everything very pretty arranged!

Donna and Mike are great hosts and we only can recommend their beautiful B&B!

My spouse and I originally had made a booking for a two night stay (Fri-Sun) at The Federal House, and planned to spend Thursday night somewhere on the way from NYC to the Finger Lakes. We then somehow ended up having a hard time finding something decent en route, so we decided to call on short notice and ask if they had availability to welcome us a day earlier than planned. Due to a last minute cancellation we were lucky. Since the smallest room we had booked for the weekend was still occupied that Thursday night, the innkeeper accomodated us in a more spacious room on the same floor and then offered us to stay in that same room for the following nights at the rate of the smaller room we had booked initially. Not a big deal maybe, but I consider it very kind and flexible.

The innkeepers, Donna and Michael, had completely renovated the house a year before, a clearly remarkable job to the 200 years old building. The premises are in an extraordinary well-kept state, everything is exceptionally clean and tidy. The garden looks simply awesome and offers a beautiful background for outdoor breakfast on the porch. The rooms are tastefully decorated, comfortable and offer high standards: e. g. extremly quiet A/C, complimentary (and functional) WiFi and a modern bathroom with high quality installations, a spacious shower and generous lighting.

Donna, the innkeeper, prepares an absolutely delicious, freshly made and healthy breakfast that varies everyday. There are only three rooms/suites in this B&B, so you are having breakfast at a communal table with the other guests - which was a friendly and communicative experience here. Breakfast is offered from 8-9 am. We actually consider this a little early when on vacation... but Donna must have read this in our faces and granted us a little "extension". I definitely recommend not to miss this early morning treat!

This is probably what the term "hidden gem" is all about. We will return.

Donna and Mike are great hosts! We stayed in the smallest room and it was lovely, great decor. I just adore the old, historic nooks and crannies! And yet, all the appointings of modernity: great shower, TV and wireless connection so that we could send all our photos from our iPAD! The Federal House has a great story, lovely gardens, whispering waterfall right next door. Just a few minutes from the beautiful Finger Lakes and the college life of Cornell and Ithaca College. Guests around the breakfast table were enjoyable too! Check it out! -Kitty and Jose, Philadelphia, PA.

My husband, daughter and I stayed three nights at The Federal House this spring and had a wonderful experience. The room was spacious and decorated elegantly. We were pleased to see that here was an air conditioner (very quiet) in the room which we used for all three nights due to the hot weather. The food was not only delicious but very creatively prepared. The Innkeepers Donna and Mike were both gracious and hospitable. They had recently bought and spent a lot of time redoing the house and it is gorgeous. We would definitely make a return visit to this beautiful inn!
