The fish was very delicious but the journey was tiresome especially for my children because they would sleep and wake and ask me whether we have reached.

Amongst the tropical lakes in the world, Lake Victoria tops the list yet it is the second largest fresh water lake in the world in terms of surface area.
The journey to ssese island therefore will grant you the opportunity to interact with nature and escape from the visually polluted urban areas. The relaxation at the beach is quite an awesome and memorable experience you cannot afford to miss. The 84 lush equatorial Ssese Islands form the worlds of their own given the nice white sandy beaches and the beautiful untouched environment. Their virgin forests teeming with wildlife, delightful empty beaches and friendly islanders all make this destination a place-to-be destination

What's not to like? Please don't travel to Bugala Island, Ssese Islands expecting "downtown city" or "a vacation resort with everything". The islands form Kalangala District of Uganda and the main town of Bugala Island is Kalangala. This is Africa as it should be seen.

You reach Lutoboka landing site via a ferry ship or boat journey from Nakiwogo near Entebbe (2 p.m. daily) and it's a 40-mile journey, taking about 3½ hours. On arriving at the landing site you will find boards advertising the various resorts but, as a personal choice, I have to recommend Waterworld on Kalangala Main Road (phone 07126 37230). The rooms are very basic but clean with ensuite if required. There is a courtyard with bar serving alcoholic drinks and sodas. But the main benefit of being at Waterworld is that it is in the town with its proliferation of shops, bars and restaurants - all wonderfully basic Africa! Kalangala is about 2 miles from the landing site up a steep and winding hill but boda-bodas await every ferry to get you there.

Away from Kalangala, with its views over Lutoboka Bay, are numerous pearls - plantations, fishing villages, jungle forestation and, further south on the island, wetlands with hippos and crocs.

If you are approaching Bugala Island from the Masaka side there is a "several sailings a day" ferry from Bukakata to Luku but it takes about an hour to get from Masaka to Bukatata and another hour from Luku to Kalangala - however the sailing is only 45 minutes.

Why am I telling you all this? Because I've fallen in love with this island! It's simplicity, it's beautiful, friendly and humble people, it's very simply AFRICA!

Oh, and finally, when you're in Kalangala Town ask for Mama Aisha's Restaurant! She doesn't need to put her name on the front of her establishment on Main Road - she just prepares the most amazing meals!

I had camped in this hotel camping site for 6 nights and have the following to share:-
(a) Security- From the security point its is quite safe as long as you keep your valuables with yourself as you would have done in any other places. Keep both your tent flies zipped up when outdoors & i think that should be enough.

(b) Location- I had extensively cycled in & around Kalangala but the calmness & serene view that this Hotel offers is absolutely the BEST. The camping site is just on the shore on a beautiful patch of a well maintained garden. There is a jetty which offers on of the best sunrises/sunsets in Kalangala. Lying & lazing under the shade is pure bliss(with beer offcourse).

(c) Warmth- I had to take a very long & tiresome route to get to the hotel because the Ferry was offroad & I reached at dusk. Seing my condition the Manager(Victoria-an extremely polished, well read & cultured lady) offered me to stay for the night in one of the vaccant rooms. The other staff was genuine & not snobbish like other high end Hotels/Resorts.

(d) Food- All I can say is that I used to cycle around for 2-3 hours to only have food made by Peter. An amazing amazing cook. Loved his Pork preparations.

At the end I would say that a place is worth it if you have this just one feeling at the end - and that is to return there again. So I would simply like to be here again!!!
