“YOU MUST GO!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2013

Originally me and my friend were only meant to stay one night - this turned into two and another trip book for 2 weeks time.
Food amazing, island beautiful, hammocks on the beach, cold beers, bonfires under a starry sky, peace and quiet...
After being sceptical about swimming, Andrew told us of a tablet to take just incase and we haven't felt ill at all.
If you want a relaxing getaway from the busy and dusty Kampala then I urge you to go!

Banda Island is a really nice place to escape hectic Kampala. We have been to the main Island of the Ssesse island before and wanted something different. Although there was miss-communication about our boat transport to the island, both Petra (the lady who takes reservations and answers your questions over email) and the local staff in Entebbe were very helpful to sort us out. The accommodation and facilities are very basic (especially the toilet and showers), but good enough to make you feel comfortable. You definitely have a bit of a 'Robinson' feeling over there. The staff on the island is lovely, food is amazing and A LOT. Showers are hot every afternoon, nuts are served while you are enjoying the sunset with a cold beer. Campfire is ready for you whenever the sun sets. Lanterns are lid up for you to find your tent in the dark and Andrew is always there to answer all your questions or to teach you several card games haha. Good place! Will most likely come back :)

Great week end away and would say to any one who wants a get away from the City to go. I a city person out and out but found the tent geat no problem the shower water was hot and the toilets were sit down and clean. Had cold beer food was home made and really good.
Having been on a few islands in Asian felt like that but had that African feel plus walked to the village and that was really good as well.
Others have expressed the experience better than me but if you in town and have a day or two please go its worth while.

Room Tip: Sleep in the tent was great

Thank you Andrew. You and your team delivered us a wonderful time. Diners, shower and personal attention were excellent. After a two weeks trip of Uganda you gave us an inside reflection on Ugandees culture and way of life. You proved a real host for us and our two daughters. We felt so welcome.

Definitely the greatest and most memorable part of our trip. After the exhausting, felt-like-it-was-never-going-to-end boat ride (not a good idea when hungover), we finally arrived at our very own private island paradise. Greeted by the island manager and fellow Australian, now African (for the last 25 years at least anyway), Andrew, we felt right at home and free to do whatever we pleased. Bon fires by the beach, backgammon, darts, home-made supersized jenga, drinks, good conversation and nature - you can't lose. After eating nothing but stodgy, carb-heavy meals, we were over the moon to find out that we were finally going to eat fresh salads and vegetables - something that is NEVER done well in developing countries. We originally wanted to get one of the cottages, but once we arrived we quickly changed our minds and went with the lazy camping instead. The island is completely safe and secure, and you're free to walk around doing whatever you want. On our last day, Andrew took us out to learn how to sail - he was shocked to hear that us "Aussies" had never learnt how to sail before... we're not your typical Australians, but we really enjoyed ourselves out on the great lake. We have a lot to thank Andrew for, but mostly thanks for sharing your plans for the island with us, we really love your vision and are excited to see them come to life - also, HUGE thanks for teaching us how to play Canasta, we know how painful it must have been for you, but since then we bought 2 decks of cards and play it every chance we get, whether on the plane or out at a "romantic" dinner in Kigali. Thanks.

I went to Banda first time in February , fell in love with the scenic beauty , villagers , dogs, beach and also met amazing guy Andrew who take care of the island .
The place is amazingly beautiful and best place to have a nice relaxing holiday , away from busy city life .

There is so many things to do , beach volley ball , walks , sailing , or camp fire with barbecue ?

The best part is you get to stay where there is no much materialistic things , like power , Internet , water heater or any noise of motor vehicle .
They use alternate power sources and Andrew is trying to implement more of these so the whole village get benefit out of it .

Me and Andrew became good friends and we catch up sometimes in Kampala when he is in town .

The whole experience was amazing that I ended up going again after 5 months as I was missing the island, also my friends who seen my previous trip photos joined me .

The second time it was much more fun as I was with bunch of friends.

This place is so beautiful that u wish to go again and again .
If you looking for a relaxing weekend with friends Banda island is your best choice .

Go Banda , meet Andy and the villagers , you won't be disappointed !

How I love this place!

Just back from a wonderful journey through whole Uganda, but Banda island is the place that slips into my mind every now & then during my days at work, back in my 'normal life' again.

I went to stay for two nights, instead I stayed for a week, plus came back with my family (parents & sister) later along the way for anther three nights. The kindness of the people (thank you Andrew, Vincent, Brenda, Kato, Jackson & everyone!), the beauty of the island, the sunsets, the freshly roasted g-nuts, & the afternoons spending in the village at the other side of the island are just too hard to resist!

Enjoy your stay at Banda island :)

Room Tip: I love the tents ON the beach!
