Owner description: The authentic, original Source of the Nile Site, where the British Explorer Speke first discovered the River Nile (of course the Africans knew there was a river, but anyway..). Stand where he stood, take a picture with the monument, go for boatrides across the river nile and into Lake Victoria, see monkeys, monitor lizards, pythons (and maybe even an authentic African Witchdoctor). The site also allows for camping, nature walks, parties and occasions with a truly spectacular nature setting. Ideal for Birdwatching and anyone looking for 1 day tour in the Ugandan Countryside.

On the west side of the river the entrance is only 5000 shillings (contrast east side 10000) and it is a lot more peaceful and scenic here. Get your boda-boda driver to wait an hour for you because there is very little activity this side of the river.

Nice and beautiful place. Statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the banks of Source of Nile makes this place very very special. Take a boat ride and you will have large species of flora and fauna. On can watch monitor lizards and thousands of birds flocking around. Ideal place for bird watching. A must visit place when you are in UGANDA.

10,000 shilling to get in...

there are stalls on the way down the step to the 'source'
boat guys for 50,000 sh are available but don't hassle you if you don't want to go...

gandi monument is also there.

one to tick off. a plaque is at the top of the steps to make the source but also an information board at the bottom.

visited this place, had some sort of spiritulism about it, the lovely nile and Mahatni Ghandi had his ashes scattered here
Totally unspoilt... fabulous place and the monkeys are cute too!
leave the place, head for the golf course, pass the Jinja showground ( agrigcutlural) walk 200 yards and turn left into Backpacker hostel, there is the most fantastic restaraunt here called the Mezzanine, great tilapia, beer and a view of the nile to die for, go at night and watch the sun setting.....out of this world!

Boat riding was my best experience and the beauty of the area really shows how Uganda is indeed the pearl of Africa. A mere look at that small Island At the centre of what is known to be the source of the Nile ca never be rubbed out of those life time memories. Please go and experience without regret.
