Basic and not developed for tourism but friendly and very green and some lovely beaches. Catch it before people start putting of horrendous hotels

“doing pemba in liveaboard”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

i really recommend you to visit pemba doing a liveaboard you will enjoy from the ocean all the beauty of the island. i went there with julia catamaran on 2011 and never forget that experience. we where diving in mesoli and the dives were amazing . plate coral goes down to 70 meters. Then they we went to have a dinner at mesoli beach with a fire and fresh fish . it was something really special that i will never forget. the boat is really great and the crew is friendly. i give a ten to this way to visit pemba,

“Pemba is a jewel”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

We found a great place to stay in Wete--an Arab run guest house with a rooftop sitting/dining area. Comfortable reasonably-priced rum and from what I heard the best food around. There aren't that many places to stay or eat there unless you go to the expensive, all-inclusive beach hotels but the island is well worth the trip. Beautiful, unspoiled place with charming people and fantastic scenery and beaches.

“A facinating place away from the crowds”
Reviewed August 24, 2012

If you have time and are looking for a quite differing experience to the beach-slacker lifestyle or other on Unguja you should look this way.
An very green island with a lot of hills around - and magnificent views all over. Try to plan ahead where to go and what to do. Arranging things in real-time however are interesting and might be seen as the more interesting events than the actual activities which you are to arrange. The range of hotels and accomodations facilities are limited and good alternatives are hard to be found. ex, there are may guesthouses wich quite low standard for 20 - 35 USD and high-end beachresorts for 200 - 500 usd (Like two are between 100-160 USD). So be aware of that when planning your trip to pemba.
