Dear Manta

This little "ode to Manta" will never be quite enough to describe the most incredibly beautiful and amazing experience at the resort. From our nightmare commute to and fro being sorted by Lauren, to our engagement on the deck of the underwater room being sneaked in by Matt and our multilinguistic service fundi, Hadzi... I cannot fault a single thing from the impeccable service of the Manta family.

Beach - beautiful coral white sand perfectly maintained with amazing coral at your fingertips and a short stride out into the water. There are various activities to partake in, from scuba, snorkeling (amazing!), trip to the low tide sand bank, light house and other local island attractions. We stayed in the superior garden suites, which is equipped with everything you need, basic and comfortable - if you spending any time in the room, you doing something wrong. But the beach facing units are just stunning - well worth a little extra.

For travelers, expect a rough journey there - it is rural Africa and our experience was a nightmare. The country is rural and simple but with it, brings a uniqueness which everyone has to experience.
Don't expect a 5 star grand luxurious and extravagant holiday... What you get is serenity and marine nature at its untouched best. Few people, intimate surroundings and friendly culture and service.

I wish i could describe how much we loved every minute of this elusive tranquil retreat. Thank you Manta team. You will surely be seeing me and Alec again soon (not soon enough).

I surprised my wife with a 7 night honeymoon here and she has not stopped talking about our amazing experience. The all inclusive package alone makes it worth it. Ontop of that we could snorkel in knee deep water and see a large amount and variety of fish. The food and service was also amazing. Do not expect a 5 star hotel luxury room, but you are doing something if you spend any significant time in your room, the activities and diving is world class. We're going back as soon as we can. Well worth the long travel there. Well done Manta!

This was everything one might dream of in an ideal tropical beach holiday. Magical location, facing due west, so with beautiful sunsets over white sand and turquoise sea. Accommodation in thatched (makuti) villas close to spacious and airy communal areas above the pretty beach, looking over a pool above the lagoon to a fringing reef. We were warmly welcomed and introduced to our personal fundi (specialist) who was a specialist in our wellbeing and comfort. Ours, Saidi, was wonderful and looked after all those details which can, and did make a huge difference. As my husband is coeliac and needs a gluten free diet, this was not easy, but Saidi and the cook were creative in providing us both with delicious food. The 'all inclusive' nature of the package meant that drinks, laundry and spa treatments were all provided without fuss, and this was very relaxing. We felt that strong management had created a good team spirit amongst the staff, all of whom were charming. One word of caution: Take antihistamines if you are allergic to sand flies.

Room Tip: Sea front villas are very much lighter and more spacious than the others, with a wonderful view from the balconies. Well worth the extra.

Accommodation:
We were upgraded to a sea-from villa which was beautiful and spacious with a private balcony. The luxury here is very simple. Everything you need is there, there is no huge fuss or fanfare about any of it which is the beauty.

Food and drink:
Thankfully, there is not a huge menu presented to you every evening or a great big buffet with food from all over the globe that goes to waste at the end of every evening (or worse gets wheeled out night after night). There is generally a couple of dishes available at each meal time with freshly baked bread and of course anything you like from the bar. If you wanted something else I'm sure you could ask for it as the staff will bend over backwards to get you what you want. But the vibe is so chilled that it's nice to have loads of choice. We had fresh market fish and local salad, vegetables and fruit every day, lovingly prepared.

When you go to the beach you will feel like there is no one around and then as if from nowhere someone will come and take your drink order and bring you some freshly roasted nuts. It's fab.

Service: Excellent. All the staff remembered our first names. Our go-to man, Sele, looked after us tremendously and by the end of the trip I felt like we were friends. However, the service was not obtrusive or overpowering. We weren't pestered, which ties in with the very relaxed and natural brand of luxury on offer.

Beach/Diving/Snorkelling: We were first time divers and the lesson we had with Mike was fantastic and followed by a great first dive. The lesson and dive were great value. Snorkelling, some of the best we've ever done and so remote - there were so few other people there. It's just you and the fish, it was great. Pristine, very private feeling beaches with umbrellas and beds made from local palm fronds.

Local area: Sele took us to his village and we were honoured - that was one of the highlights of our whole trip. However, we were taken there because we had a specific interest in the school there and we went on foot. Other than that you can't really just go off exploring easily. There is very little in the vicinity that you can walk to. However, the resort will organise transfers and day trips for those that want them.

Resting on a magical beach, The Manta Resort is a great place for those searching an authentic Pemba experience. Very kind local staff trying their best, comfortable rooms and facilities, very engaged owners particularly to be applauded for their efforts to include, train and support the local community. The all in package including a daily spa treatment are of excellent value. Last dinner on the beach magical. The atmosphere is relaxed, a wonderful place to rest and to return....

We were a group of 11 (2 families) and all very much enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Manta Resort is a refurbished hotel, with different type of rooms. The beach rooms are the best, the garden rooms were a bit dark but better priced. Some of the rooms need to be upgraded with small small amenities such 2 bed side lamps. Seating on the beach room's terrace watching the sun go down was simply wonderful. Great idea the sun beds on the terrace.
