Mkhaya Stone camp has great location and animal diversity around it. However, they are not very customer oriented at all. Our reservation was for 24hs-4pm to 4pm & to include a bush walk. They had it as 4pm to 10am and it took some time to square it away and correct. The night we were there there was another couple and we all expected a native dance as advertised during the dinner. Instead we had the whole personnel sitting around the fire and staring at us while eating. When eventually I dared to ask (the next morning) what happened to the dance, they said (laughing) that we were only 4 & that's why no dance was offered. Sure, we were 4 but we paid dearly and should have had the same service as parties more than 4.
The guide (Thimba)would notice the animals during the drives after we all already pointed them to him 1-2 mins earlier. No attention to questions, no desire to make the drives memorable. Nice guy but not good for the purpose. to top it, at the end we had to drive him out of the reserve in our rental (mini-car), with my husband getting off to open the gates (the guide sitting in the back of our car holding a huge sack w/ something heavy in his lap and unable to move/get off). We were still in the park and it was not very safe for my husband, neither appropriate, to perform that activity. We had even to cross a river in that mini car w/ the additional wight of the guide and his sack. We made it, but...come on...
Meeting point for the place was extremely difficult to find (found it by pure miracle), GPS coordinates not correct!
All in all if they work a bit on the service that place can be an amazing one for game viewing. 24h stay is more than enough. Walk is great too, but we had to relay on what we see ourselves.
Their manager is a great person, who is attentive to customers and loves his job. We were extremely lucky to see a 2 day old white baby rhino crossing the camp with his mother while having a lunch-unbeliavable. Got great shots.
