We stayed at Maya for our anniversary. BIG MISTAKE! When we were checking in, there were 30 dead grasshoppers all over the room. When I asked if they had mosquito nets, the woman said, "This is Africa, you know" . VERY RUDE, considering I have been all over Africa and I have even camped in many different countries. For 50 euro a night, I expect at least a bug free enviornment or a mosquito net. Usually we stay in hostels, and this is the BUGGIEST room I have seen in my entire life (43 countries)
The food was delicious, but the portions ridiculously small. The main staple for Senegalese is white rice, and we were given not even 1/4 cup worth!
The owner is a grumpy woman and the entire staff seems to walk on eggshells. No music, no laughter. Senegal is famous for TERANGA (hospitality) what a disappointment!
Another couple stayed one night and left immediately, they were terrified of the hundreds of grasshoppers flying around the room.
