“Squeaky floors”
Reviewed March 14, 2009

I stayed here midweek. Assigned a room adjacent to the front desk. They have roughly 20 -24 rooms on 2 floors located here. FYI, the indoor pool is located up the hill where the rest of the hotel is located.

Every time the person in the room above walked, there was a squeaking noise that was annoying. It sounded like a NYC apartment. Insist on a room on the <upper> level. I was surprised about the noise because this is a newer hotel, not some circa 1980 hotel. The hotel was fully booked and couldn't change my room.

Comfortable bed. Nice sized room. Smallish bathroom, but more than acceptable. Towels were good.

This property doesn't provide free lobby computers. Have to say I was surprised because I stayed at an Econo Lodge (lower down in the Choice Hotel chain) that did.

A full buffet breakfast was provided at the HoJo next door. Front desk provides a cert. That buffet was very good, and a pleasant surprise (for a HoJo).

I'd return with the promise of a second floor room. Otherwise, I would not return.

Between choosing a room for $500 a night to staying 20 miles away from Lake Placid, this hotel really offered good clean accomodations for a reasonable price (about $130 a nght). It's not smack in the middle of town - you need to walk about 20 minutes to get to main street. The main artery runs close enough that you hear the cars and motorcycles, but for two nights, it was tolerable. Pool and hot tub were nice, and continental breakfast was just shy of serving a full breakfast. Friendly staff, and hotel ok if you're not wanting it as the destination.

We stayed in a two bedroomed 'corner' suite in early August. When I booked the room on the hotel's website I wasn't sure what I would get for the extra cash, but as we were travelling with our teenage son, it was worth every penny to have a bigger suite with that extra privacy for all of us without paying twice the cost for two separate rooms! The door opened onto a hall area with doors to the 2 bedrooms and the bathroom from this. The bathroom was average size with bath/shower and a huge mirror on the outside of the door which proved a hit with my fashion conscious teenager! Both bedrooms were large; one with kingsized bed, the other with a double bed. The kingsized room also had a TV, fridge and microwave; the double room a TV, coffee maker and older fridge. Both had doors onto the shared balcony which overlooked the car park, reception building and in the distance the mountains and lake. The indoor pool was clean and the free use of the canoes, boats and pedelos on the lake was great - we had a huge laugh just 'messing about ' for an hour. Ulimately, this is a chain hotel with its 'standard' furnishings, pictures and colour schemes, but if you want a good value, bigger than normal room at $228 (£124) inc taxes/breakfast per night for some privacy from your kids (or relatives!) then this is a good hotel choice.

We would stay again. The place was very clean and is on Lake Placid. They have boats you can take out on the lake free and also free laundry facility. The breakfast was very good. Can't say anything bad. The only thing is we were quoted one rate on the phone and didn't reserve thought we'd take a chance when we arrived. Glad we waited because when we arrived I was quoted a rate that was less than on the phone.

Most of the hotels in this area of the Adirondacks are expensive, although a few are priced $90 or lower. This one was $170 per nite. Be aware that this hotel tacks on smaller extra fees which you must request be taken off, such as "Safe charge" for $5.13. When they removed the charge for us, they didn't remove the additional tax that was charged for it and who is going to make a fuss over a few dollars - they look at you funny.
Our family had a nice time in the adirondacks - riding the gondola up little White Face Mountain, hiking the high falls gorge, etc. This hotel offers free use of their canoes, kayaks and paddleboats. Its best to use off-hours since you may get stuck with the "leaky" ones if too many others are using equipment.
We felt that the hotel was racist because they relinquished our family to the furthest away, back-corner room (which worked out ok - there were many party animals in the main hallways which we couldn't hear in the back) and then we were over charged, given the wrong room key, given bad directions to places, told that we couldn't use the boating equipment because they were all taken (turned out they weren't, we went back and the office conceded to let us use the free equipment).
Several of the hotel guests at the pool called my kids racist names - which I don't blame the hotel for but it gave me a disappointing view of the whole trip.
The adirondacks were beautiful and I was sad to come across ignorant people - but we make sure we have fun as a family no matter where we go. The Howard Johnsons Restaurant next door was inexpensive with delicious food but was dirty. The Desperado's Mexican Restaurant across the road was expensive, slow service and terrible food. Mine was so salty that I would be sick - had to ask for new. The restaurant calls itself "Irish Mexican". I didn't see any mexicans in the kitchen or on staff, but lots of college kids working.
Our family will go back to the Adirondacks again but not to this area or this hotel, we'll try something new next time.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn 6/30-7/3 and were upgraded to a mountain view room. We were pleased overall -all was well with our room, the free breakfast, indoor pool (which we often had to ourselves), and the use of canoes & paddleboats. I was able to obtain a great rate for us after asking about a handful of potential discounts (e.g., AAA, Entertainment book, etc.). The best discount ended up being through our BJ Wholesale Club membership.

Our only negative was that on our last night we had neighbors who smoked on their patio, and we had to shut up our room to stop the smoke from coming in. Well, because the room only had the slider door, once we closed that, we had no other source of fresh air to get the smell of the smoke out of our room.
