“Nice Clean Motel”
Reviewed August 26, 2014

Our room was in the lower part of the motel, near the office. I would recommend staying in this area as it's away from the pool area. The room was very clean, spacious and extremely quiet. The buffet breakfast was full and delicious. The shower curtain had a bit of staining on the bottom. I mentioned it on check-out and was told it would be taken care of. I also mentioned it on the Comfort Inn survey I was sent. I got an immediate response saying it would be replaced right away. Extremely good service.

Room Tip: As mentioned, the rooms in the lower area (near the office) are very quiet. We had Room 307.

Stayed with family for 3 nights while visiting the area. Last stayed here in '99 and I think the same carpeting, furniture and TV's are in use.

Cleanliness is ok. Tub was a bit mildewy. Definite odors of age in the hallways. Sliding screen to balcony was hanging on by a thread. One of the windows on sliding glass door was so cloudy, I believe the seal was shot. Beds were not that comfortable.

Best part of hotel is the pool area. It's obvious this was once a more upscale property and the pool area/atrium is the highlight. However age of rest of property and lack of updates was starting to show in here as well.

There is also no elevator to get to second floor in main building. What a pain with heavy luggage.

Good points: Large breakfast, Free canoes/rowboats/paddle boats for use by hotel guests to use on Lake Placid, which touches the property. Stop for free shuttle to Lake Placid village across the street. Cost, but that's evident as to why.

Given the options in LP, unless this property undergoes some significant upgrades, I won't be staying here again. I'd pay a bit more for a newer and cleaner property.

Room Tip: First floor so not having an elevator to use isn't an issue.

I'm so sorry you didn't enjoy all of your stay with us. We are in the process of refurbishing/updating the property, but it is a lengthy process. Please give us another try when you are back in the area.

Reading other reviews of this hotel I was skeptical, but overall it was an okay experience.

This hotel has I think three separate buildings - the main desk area (which is literally right on the street), the poolside rooms above, and off to the side a 'treehouse'? (Not really sure about that, i didn't see it except from afar). There are paddle boats and canoes (I think) which you can borrow to putter around on a lake - we never made it to do that so I can't comment on it. The hotel is located almost walking distance from the downtown area with all of the shopping -- I didn't walk it but other people were doing so -- it is definitely doable - maybe a mile or two.

The check in went great - the person checking me in was friendly and very helpful - I had questions about things to do in the area and he had suggestions and handouts; that was great.

We drove up to the top of the hill to the rooms, there's not a ton of parking up there but it appeared to be enough. We had a "poolside" room -- the pool is in the center of the hotel, and there are about 24 rooms with sliding glass doors that open on to the pool deck. Your room key opens the door in the hallway, the sliding glass door is on the other side of the room. This means that your room has no natural light - no windows. It also means that your room smells kindof like a pool. It was a little bit musty -- I don't really know what you could do about that -- the room is next to a pool! Also, because you're right next to the pool you can hear the pool! It's only open until 10 PM but until then you hear kids laughing and running around. One more thing about the sliding glass doors -- you can't lock them from the outside. So, while you are in the pool your room is unlocked. Granted, so is everyone else's...

The pool itself is super - it's really big, really deep -- 9 feet at the deep end. There's a hot tub which was very nice as well. Also, there are lots of chairs around to sit in and relax. They did run out of towels the first night that we stayed, but we just used a towel from the room. The whole pool deck is made of little rocks (which are a bit painful on the bare feet). The whole area is made up with big rocks to make it look like it's outside - it's weird, I tell you.

Breakfast was one of the biggest benefits to the hotel - it was standard fare for a comfort inn -- waffles, bagels, english muffins, sausage, scrambled eggs, yogurt, fruit, cereal, oatmeal, juice, coffee, cocoa, milk. The women who were working in there were constantly on the move, cleaning or refiling - it was a nice breakfast.

So, overall, this was a decent experience. It wasn't the best hotel I've stayed in but far from the worst. Lake Placid is such an expensive area that I think this hotel is good for the cost.

Room Tip: Don't get a poolside room -- you can still use the pool but you don't have to smell it - and...

Although initially disappointed that our "drive up" designated room was in fact on the second floor, Room 228 turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The 2 queen bed room was spacious, including a table and two very comfortable chairs. To us, the hidden gem of a feature was the full patio door leading to a private balcony (not adjoining the next room's - but a totally private, small balcony that could not be breached). With the patio facing east, we were able to use it early in the heat of the day. This allowed us each of the 3 nights that we stayed to have our patio door wide open so as to enjoy a great night's sleep with a great supply of fresh air.
The motel itself has a wide variety of room options and separate buildings to choose from - too numerous to list here, just to advise anyone to check out all the room option possibilities (from main building to tree house etc).
The breakfast area is large - well stocked - and supervised throughout the seating times so that there is plenty of food. From hot to cold, there are lots of options available. Additionally, the waffle cooking area is separated from the rest of the stations so that those not wanting waffles can easily obtain their breakfast without delay.
Downsides: (a)There was a strong garbage smell on the second floor the first day and a half that we were there, but it disappeared mid Monday (most likely when clean up from weekend guests occurred). (b) The hallways are showing signs of considerable guest traffic: older carpet showing its age; walls etc banged up in places, probably due to skiis etc in the winter; pack packs and other gear in the summer.
Do not let the few downsides detract from this beautiful lake setting.
We definitely recommend this motel - and will be returning on our next trip.

Room Tip: Room 228 - 2 queen with private balcony If choosing a "drive up" room for that purpose, c...

Traveling to Lake Placid for the first time I didn't want to stay in one of the very expensive hotels. I found the Comfort Inn on line and booked it at a very reasonable rate. From check in to check out the staff was excellent. The free breakfast was very good and well staffed. The view of the mountains was just a plus for us.Free use of their boats and close to main street also was a plus.Next time I'm headed for Lake placid I'll book the Comfort Inn and recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the mountains

Came hear after too much rain and cold made camping less bearable. Turned out to be awesome! Nice indoor pool/hot tub set up and you get free canoes and pedal boats on Lake Placid. You're also across the street from two of Lake Placid's best restaurants Freestyle and Pan Dolce. One negative is there's no swimming area so if you're coming for a longer stay, I'd recommend one of the nearby hotels.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in building A either poolside (if you want easy access to the outdoor pool) or lakesi...

We traveled to Lake Placid this year for the Iron Man competition and felt fairly safe booking a room at the Comfort Inn in town. Much to our dismay- the hotel was a dive! The carpet was old and worn looking and the room emitted a nasty smell of old socks and/or body odor. To make matters worse- I noticed the lock to the adjoining room was broken- providing full access to our room from our neighbors. The hotel did fix this upon our request but there was nothing they could do about the smell other than spray room freshener.. This hotel desperately needs a make over and for the horrendous price they charged for this 3-day stay, I hope they put that money to good use.

Room Tip: Skip this one.
