Quality Inn Lake Placid
Ranked #17 of 31 Hotels in Lake Placid
Reviewed July 26, 2008

Most of the hotels in this area of the Adirondacks are expensive, although a few are priced $90 or lower. This one was $170 per nite. Be aware that this hotel tacks on smaller extra fees which you must request be taken off, such as "Safe charge" for $5.13. When they removed the charge for us, they didn't remove the additional tax that was charged for it and who is going to make a fuss over a few dollars - they look at you funny.
Our family had a nice time in the adirondacks - riding the gondola up little White Face Mountain, hiking the high falls gorge, etc. This hotel offers free use of their canoes, kayaks and paddleboats. Its best to use off-hours since you may get stuck with the "leaky" ones if too many others are using equipment.
We felt that the hotel was racist because they relinquished our family to the furthest away, back-corner room (which worked out ok - there were many party animals in the main hallways which we couldn't hear in the back) and then we were over charged, given the wrong room key, given bad directions to places, told that we couldn't use the boating equipment because they were all taken (turned out they weren't, we went back and the office conceded to let us use the free equipment).
Several of the hotel guests at the pool called my kids racist names - which I don't blame the hotel for but it gave me a disappointing view of the whole trip.
The adirondacks were beautiful and I was sad to come across ignorant people - but we make sure we have fun as a family no matter where we go. The Howard Johnsons Restaurant next door was inexpensive with delicious food but was dirty. The Desperado's Mexican Restaurant across the road was expensive, slow service and terrible food. Mine was so salty that I would be sick - had to ask for new. The restaurant calls itself "Irish Mexican". I didn't see any mexicans in the kitchen or on staff, but lots of college kids working.
Our family will go back to the Adirondacks again but not to this area or this hotel, we'll try something new next time.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn 6/30-7/3 and were upgraded to a mountain view room. We were pleased overall -all was well with our room, the free breakfast, indoor pool (which we often had to ourselves), and the use of canoes & paddleboats. I was able to obtain a great rate for us after asking about a handful of potential discounts (e.g., AAA, Entertainment book, etc.). The best discount ended up being through our BJ Wholesale Club membership.

Our only negative was that on our last night we had neighbors who smoked on their patio, and we had to shut up our room to stop the smoke from coming in. Well, because the room only had the slider door, once we closed that, we had no other source of fresh air to get the smell of the smoke out of our room.

The Comfort Inn was about the only place in Lake Placid that allows pets for no extra charge. And it's a very clean and nice hotel. Behind the hotel is the lake with a dock & boats. It's quite nice. The rooms were a good size and clean. I actually found the beds to be quite comfortable, I had a great sleep! :) Great breakfast too (included in price).
The ground level room was ideal, as the rooms have sliding glass doors opening to the parking lot and lake. It was very convenient. Very happy with this hotel.

The room was a good size and clean. We were travelling with a one year old and there was plenty of room for his pack'n'play and all his toys in our room with two double beds. Microwave and fridge area was nice and clean. Pool area was nice with a garden feel complete with a flowing river and water fall. The pool deck uncomfortable on your bare feet, but I think it deters running and slipping. Breakfast was good and breakfast area was clean. Though we didn't get a chance to use the water equipment, the canoes, row boats and paddle boats appeared to be clean and in good condition.

We did have an issue with the internet. We could not get a solid signal, they had a very vague page in the hotel info manual about rooms that did and did not get a signal. They had some sort of internet bridge box available at the front desk (which was down a steap hill in a different building from the main building). We got the bridge, followed the instrucions and got it running, but we still couldn't keep a solid signal. It was like very poor dial up service. My husband tried to go to the pool area for service, as the info page suggested better service there, but had the same results. We were basically lucky if we could get one page to load and it would take literally a minute to do so. I expressed the problem at check out but was simply told I should have called a tech support line. We had already invested enough time and think it was just very poor equiptment on thier end as it was simply Netgear. So I would not recommend this hotel if you have online business to do while there.

Another issue was that they were cleaning or something in the room above us, AT 9PM!!!! At first I thought it was a jetted tub, but then realized it was indeed moving around. Over the course of two hours it turned on and off many times, and moved all about. I think they were moving around the furniture too! I was getting real nervous that it was going to wake the baby, but as soon as I was about to call the desk, it would stop, but then start up again. It was strange, why would anyone be vacuuming at 9pm in a hotel, but they were! Also, this hotel in located right across from a Rite Aid and a McDonnalds, but is not within walking distance to town. Plus the main building is up a very steap hill, which gives you a nice view but could be a drawback if you want to walk around and get to the front desk.

Overall I would actually stay there again, the issues were just minor.

The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. The beds were not very comfortable but they weren't the worst! I would go back.

We were traveling through the area and thought this would be a good place to stop for the night.

Staff was helpful and pleasant when checking in.

We booked a room on the backside of the property on the lake. Liked it a lot. They have free use of canoes, etc... from their little dock.

For a Comfort Inn to have such a 'charming' room I would say is unusual. Wood paneling and the like... Was clean and spacious w/ a fridge and microwave. It wasn't terribly busy, so everything was very peaceful. Room, pool area, etc...

The pool area was very interesting. Nice large pool surrounded by 'a jungle' of plants. Rooms all around opening up into the pool area. Just a neat atmosphere. The jets in the whirlpool weren't working at the time.

Did laundry and the washer/dryer were free... too cool.

Don't remember checking out the breakfast. Maybe I slept in.

Convenient location. Went to the Rite Aide across the rd. and the grocery store a short distance down the road.

An Olympic training center is located here. They have scheduled activities for the public.

The area is just beautiful. Bustling, but scenic and peaceful. I would definitely stay here again given the chance.

This hotel is a little bit of a walk from downtown, but for the price it was worth it. Very clean and the breakfast buffet was very good with many choices.
