What else is to be said about this place,i agree with all the previous reviews as for the location, the staff ....We had a lake view suite (for the price of a double room) with a balcony.
It was great ,very relaxing and the view is superb.
It 's just the best place to stay in lake Placid !!!

We just returned home from a 4 day 3 night stay in lake Placid at the Golden Arrow. The rooms we spotless the ground floor rooms with direct acess to the beach and dock along with boats available at no charge was in its self priceless. Larger size fridge, soft fluffy towel. We parked and only drove to Whiteface and Santa's Workshop. The staff was very smiley and helpful. Even talked us into Santa's workshop after we were told it was a waste of money... NOT.. Perfect for my 6 and 3 yr olds. My children were greeted with smiles even when they were "loud" Toys in the grand lobby for the children. We never felt unsafe or unwelcomed for spending our $$'s there. We have found what we think will be our yearly week long adirondack vaction spot. For its lodging and activities. We can not wait to go again. As to how great it was... We asked our 6yr old were she would rather go next year to disney again or the golden arrow...... Answer, GOlden Arrow. Thank you for helping us create very special memories as well as a very happy birthday for myself while we were there.
Two great eateries....
The Boat House a bit pricey, but oh so good.
The Cottage, delcious food and really inexpensive prices.

WOW...your 6 year old would rather visit us here than go back to Disney? I don't think I higher compliment than that exists! Ask her if she would like a job in our marketing department!
We look forward to having you visit us again in the future. We are refurbishing our pool this fall, so it will be brand new the next time you visit!

We stayed for two nights in late July. In size, the room was comparable with what one would expect. However, it was conveniently located right on the main street, comfortable, and very clean. Because of my 6-year-old niece's asthma, we were given a room specifically kept as allergen-free as possible (one wing, first floor rooms; the "pets allowed" rooms were in the other wing on an entirely different floor which kept those types of triggers as far away as possible). We were very impressed at the lengths the management and staff went to to keep these rooms healthy for guests with respiratory issues.

Our room opened directly onto a small patio with the beach/lake literally only feet away. I was a bit concerned we might be disturbed by noise from people outside, but my fears were totally unfounded. In addition to the lake with complimentary boats and lifejackets, the hotel offers an indoor pool area (regular, kiddie wading, and two hot tubs), steam room, exercise/weight room, video game room, table game room (ping pong, darts, pool), and direct enclosed access to the separate restaurant and small shopping mall connecting to Main Street.

My VERY MINOR criticisms are that the layout is somewhat confusing. There are no signs at or in the garages to signify where your room is, nor is it clear once you enter the hallway from the garage which "wing" you are in. It took a bit of exploring and a helpful male employee to figure it out. Also, the spaces in the garage closest to our room were VERY tight (turning around took multiple maneuvers). Additionally, the water temperature in the shower tended to fluctuate and needed to be monitored closely. None of these were a sufficient enough problem, however, for me to give the Golden Arrow anything other than an excellent recommendation overall!

I am new to tripadvisor.com and absolutly love the site and all the helpful reviews! However I was quite surprised at the amount of negative comments about the Golden Arrow. I stayed here twice when it was the Best Western Golden Arrow (same family operating it then and now) and did not experience anything remotely negative. My first stay was in September 2002 with my husband in a ground floor room with a patio looking right at the lake and private beach. Yes it was a bit outdated but no smells and odors and it was clean as a whistle.

My second stay in June 2004 was in the two bedroom suite with the private entrance off the alpine mall with my Mother. Perfect for handicapped travelers-no stairs or tight corners to navigate and perfect for wheelchairs and bulky walkers which is an issue for us. Loved the suite- we each had the privacy we wanted and were able to eat in when we wanted to with a beautiful view of Mirror Lake. Again, Clean and quiet. i will be reserving this room again hopefully this fall 2007 and look forward to staying at this family friendly property again. Please keep in mind if you are looking for a high end property with high end amenities you may want to look into The Mirror Lake Inn, The Lake Placid Lodge or The Point in Saranac Lake. The Golden Arrow has a beautiful location but, in my opinion, caters to a more family oriented down to earth crowd and welcomes the sound of laughing children in their hallways! With that said, I love this property and highly recommend it whether you are going for the skiing, the fall foliage, or just to relax and enjoy this beautiful little town!

Located right on mirror lake, with its own beach, in the centre of Lake Placid. Received a warm welcome from the desk staff on arrival. Hotel lobby has great picture window overlooking the lake. Hotel was modern, well equipped and spotlessly clean. i was lucky and upgraded to lake view room - a real plus. One minor draw back is that if you are on the 3rd floor (north wing?) then there is quite a lot of foot traffic past your room as there is an alternative exit/entrance to the hotel. But all in all a great stay.

What a lovely getaway on a cold, crisp fall weekend and surprised to see that the night before they received 4 inches of snow! The hotel staff couldn't have been nicer and most helpful in advising us on things to do. The room was newly updated and the balcony view overlooking Mirror Lake was beautiful. Although we did not use the pool it appeared to be very clean. They do not include a continental breakfast as part of your room rate. Thought the rate was fair in comparison to the high end lodgings down the street and was happy we did not spend the extra money because the Golden Arrow had the best location to the Olympic Center, restaurants and shops. They advertise the Alpine Mall adjacent to them which was a disappointment because it was only a handful of soveneir shops that you see everywhere. Definitely would stay there again!
