We stayed 2 nights here and would like to have stayed longer. We broke our long drive from Canada to Washington DC. The views and the surrounding town were delightful. We had a stunning lake view - definitely would not consider the village view. The real attractions for us were the views and the feel of the village - almost like being in one of the alpine resorts in Europe. We walked right from the room corridor through a little shopping arcade and coffee bar right out on the 'village' street - full of bars, eating places and shops.

This was just out of season (after Labor Day) but still busy, all places open and lots to do. The hotel brochure says apart from November & one spring month they consider this an all season resort. We can believe it. People were out canoing, sculling, rowing and even a pedal boat. Several hardy people were swimming up and down the lake. There is a grassy sitting area and a white sandy beach for sunbathing

The meals on offer in the town (unless you went to hotel restaurants) did seem to rely a lot on bread or dough products. There was a great Crepe house but you can't eat pancakes all day long! We may have missed some places of course.

The hotel was very comfortable but showing its age - in our room the furniture and furnishings were a bit worn . Probably not a great problem if you were here on a winter sports holiday, but a bit 'sad' for a summer holiday.

Two downers:
We wanted a big bed for a romantic time here - only two separate beds, and the hotel would not put them together

Secondly a warning - they have a rigid/costly cancellation policy for prior cancellation, no show or even cutting short a current visit.

This is a lovely area, and the hotel really is beautifully positioned. It was a dream to wake up in the morning and look over this view of Mirror Lake. We will definitely come back to the Adirondacks.

Room Tip: Get a lake view

We had a first floor room that literally opened up to the beach. The view was breathtaking. We were just steps away from complimentary kayaks, row boats, and paddle boats. Life jackets are provided in varied sizes. We could have spent all our time on the beach, but we were right in the heart of Lake Placid with tons of great shops and restaurants at our disposal. We have stayed elsewhere previously, and won't make that mistake again. The Golden Arrow is THE place to stay. It is clean, comfortable and eco-friendly.

Stayed for 1 night midweek on usa road trip, wish we could have stayed longer. Had booked a village view room but upgraded for 20 dollars on check in to a lake side view and was probably the best money we have ever spent!! Had the most fantastic view of mirror lake which we will never forget. Has a lovely little beach area with free kayaks ans pedelos to enjoy the lake. Very tranquil setting. Rooms are large with big and comfortable beds. Good location close to all local amenities. Some areas of the hotel are a little dated but everything else more than made up for this. We wouldn't have thought many other hotels in the area would be an improvement on this one.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a lake view, you won't regret the little bit extra it costs once you see the v...

This hotel could not be situated better. In the heart of downtown Lake Placid directly on Mirror Lake.

Unfortunately, this hotel has an identity crisis. It does not know what to be. The cavernous lobby is uninviting as were all the desk agents I dealt with. The theme was slightly Ramada Inn meets Bavaria. The hallways had a musty smell as did our room, the Panther Suite. The size of the suite was perfect for our group of three. Two Bedrooms, one with king bed, two rocking chairs and a working fireplace, the other with two queen beds. The pillows were some of the most uncomfortable I have slept on. My daughter thought so as well.

The decor in the suite ranged from left over early american, to rustic with touches of french provincial... strange at best. The bathroom was large with a jetted tub, seperate shower, toilet and sink with granite counter top. Bath amenities were good quality. The entry hall had an eating nook with a fridge, coffee maker & microwave. The coffee maker was a 12 cup but the pods were for a four cup and it was placed awardly so that it was difficult to remove from its shelf to pour in the water. We spilled every time we used it.

Both bedrooms had narrow balconies with cheap chairs from which to enjoy the magnificent views of the lake and the surrounding mountains.

We didn't eat in the restaurant but used the complimentary kayaks (nice amenity) on the lake and the swimming pool which was large and had major chloine.

For the views and the location right downtown I would give this property high marks but otherwise all I can say is it was strange and quite pricey. I will probably try somewhere else next trip.

Room Tip: Facing The Lake.

Dear Guest,
I'm glad you enjoyed the spectacular views from your room at the Golden Arrow and also took advantage of our complimentary kayaks on Mirror Lake.

I apologize that you didn't find our pillows comfortable. That is very odd since we usually get very good reviews regarding the comfort everything in our rooms provide. I do wish that you would have let us know at the time you were here and we could have brought you different ones. Same goes for your problem with the coffee maker, we could have brought you a new one at your request.

I'm confused by what you mean when you say "Slightly Strange" in the title of your review. I can also say that we are definitely not going through an "identity crisis". The Golden Arrow knows what it is and what it stands for. Although, we do have a new head of beautification in charge of re-vamping some of the resort,so it is possible that some of the decor that you refer to as "strange at best" could be changed should you choose to stay with us again.

I apologize your stay at the Golden Arrow was not everything you'd hoped it would be. I do hope you will change your mind and stay with us again in the future. Until then we wish you safe and happy travels.

We stayed 4 days, 3 nights in late September. I would rank the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort (GALR) as one of -- if not THE -- best hotels I've ever stayed. There's a lot to mention, but I'll keep the points as succinct as possible.

1. We stayed on the 5th floor, with stunning balcony views of Mirror Lake and Whiteface Mountain. A couple of resident loons sang their enchanting cries on occasion. The views and peaceful atmosphere are the best assets. Just lovely.

2. The GALR is family owned and operated. A German couple emigrated to the US in the 1950s and bought the place. The GALR is filled with hints of German memorabilia and has an upscale, European-chalet style. Today, the couple's daughter owns GALR. The resort has a wonderful "everybody is family" atmosphere. Some hotels are beautiful but very impersonal. This ine is beautiful and very welcoming.

3. The GALR is very modern. I love the lobby! Amazing views of the lake.

4. The GALR is a bona-fide "green" hotel. They have huge solar thermal panels on the roof that heat the indoor pool. One roof is covered with small, blooming plants! CFL bulbs, bamboo floors, recycled carpet, etc.

5. The hotel is pet friendly. Pets are allowed only on one floor only. The hotel has an "allergen free" floor for people with allergies.

6. We ate breakfast and lunch at the Generations Restaurant. OMG the food is amazing!! The servings are a little on the large side, so go when you're hungry, or expect to bring home leftovers.

7. There were a good amount of guests even though it was after Labor Day. I could hear some hallway activity through the door but it was pretty muffled and therefore not disturbing.

8. Water pressure and temperatures are excellent. No problems at all. Shower worked well and the whirlpool tub was a nice amenity. Free wireless Internet, too.

9. There's a parking garage below ground with very convenient access from the GALR hallway. The resort also has a hallway that leads to a bunch of Adirondack artisan shops on Main Street. We enjoyed perusing this area.

10. The GALR is close to the Olympic Center and loads of restaurants and shops. There are a few grocery stores within 5 minutes driving time. We purchased groceries so we weren't eating out all the time. Our suite had a microwave, coffeemaker and fridge. AND it has a fireplace! Very nice.

Overall, this is one of the better hotels in Lake Placid. There are dozens of other nice hotels, certainly, but the lake view and the stellar staff are what make the GALR special. I can't think of anything wrong with the place. Will definitely come again.

We had never stayed in the LP village, so being the first time, we were expecting all touristy and cut rate. What a pleasant surprise this expected to be. The Golden Arrow features a beautiful lobby area, with very clean, well appointed rooms, most facing Mirror Lake.
The staff was very friendly, both with making the reservation, and with check-in. We checked in early and received a “King Lakeview” room, and only later noticed that we were right next to the elevator shaft, which was pretty noisy. We notified the staff and asked if it would be possible to be moved, but were told that there were no “King Lakeviews” remaining for the night. After a short time, the front desk manager told us he found a replacement room, which turned out to be a King Suite Lakeview, which they happily offered at the same rate. Wow. This is customer service and for this reason alone, we will definitely return.
The hotel/ resort has a private sandy beach area, with plenty of recliners to enjoy. There are docks with numerous canoes, kayaks, and paddleboats, which are available free to guests. Almost all rooms enjoy a great view of Mirror Lake and the village. The indoor pool area is clean with several Jacuzzis and a kiddies’ pool.
Their restaurant is attached and you are right on Main Street, so enjoying and shopping Lake Placid could not be any easier. This place seems to have it all and worth serious consideration.
