We had eaten at the Interlaken about 15 years ago and wanted to give it a try again for my husband's birthday, as it was a great experience in the past. First I would like to say that my complaint has NOTHING to do with the quality of the food or the service of the wait staff. Both quality and service was excellent on that end. Our issue was with management. We were greeted awkwardly when we walked in the door, the owner stating that she had seen our name on a bag at Whiteface....we hadn't been there and it was very awkward as when we said that we hadn't skiied that day, she just kind of walked away. We were seated by the waitress who was friendly and warm and answered any questions we had. About five minutes after we sat down, two children (around ages 4 and 8 or so) came out from a back office and began to run around, running through the dining room and into the kitchen. We made our reservation for 5:30 and were the first ones seated, and were glad that around 6 pm another couple came in and were seated in the same dining room with their 8-9 year old daughter. We had our 7 and 10 year old at our table who were equally as quiet as their daughter. However, after only a minute or two of being seated, the owner went over with her grand-daughter (one of the ones that had been running around) to the other table, introduced her grand-daughter to their child and then proceeded to make a play date at the table. Both children sat next to each other and were playing and doing each other's hair. Awkward and weird, but didn't disturb us yet. What became loud and obnoxious was when the grandmother/owner would walk back and forth from the dining room, into the kitchen, back into the office near the door and around and around. She talked loudly, the younger grandchild ran around, and everyone was talking as if they were the only ones in the whole inn. It was intollerable by the time we got our salad course and my huband and I wished we could have just walked out. We ate our main course as quickly as we could and asked for the check. The waitress kept asking us if we were enjoying the food and actually apologized for the noise level and distractions in the dining room. We explained that we wanted to leave and asked for the bill again, but also made sure she knew that it was not the food or her service that was the problem. We expected the total amount of the bill, and honestly we wouldn't have cared that we spent over $175 for two appetizers, two drinks, and four meals IF WE COULD HAVE ENJOYED IT. However, the noise level was so obnoxious that we all left wound up and a ball of nerves. Paying a huge bill like we did was hard to swallow when we didn't enjoy ourselves at all and honestly wanted to run from the place.

Management has NO BUSINESS being in business. The female owner never came to our table to ask us how our meal was, set the tone for the noise level in the small dining room (which had only our table and the other couple in it), and allowed her young grandchildren who she was apparently babysitting while she was managing the inn to run all over as if it was her house. I will NEVER return to the Interlaken, and I can only assume others have had similar experiences there, as when we left around 7:30, there were only two other couples eating in the pub side of the place, and the couple I mentioned above. Do yourself and your nerves a favor and go somewhere else.

When our group of foodies and restaurant owners arrived, we instantly noticed how empty the place was on a Saturday. Strike #1. We had an 8pm reservation and were celebrating two 40th birthdays (which I had mentioned when I called). Our group of 10 stood in the foyer for 10 minutes before a waiter walked by and asked if we needed something. Um... Strike #2. We sat and ordered a bottle of red wine. Waitress uncorked a Chardonnay. Strike #3. In general, the waitress was noticeable frazzled and somewhat unkept. Foie Gras was inedible and escargot was dry and served in phyllo cups. Most appetizers went into the garbage. The spinach salad with macadamia nuts and the warm bread were the best aspects of the meal. As for the main meals.... Two steaks were severely undercooked. One person ordered the filet medium rare and the inside was purple. It was sent back. I ordered the ribeye medium and it was nearly rare. I ate three bites and quit. Others ordered the land and air trottole but found this very brown dish to contain mystery meat instead of duck and beef. It became a game trying to guess what the meat was. Last strike! Ultimately no one ordered dessert. Our bill was $1,000.

As we left, the waitress said bye and offered "wasn't it someone's birthday?"

The meal was a failure. The service was lacking. I wish we had gone someplace else to celebrate such a big occasion.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner here over the holidays with family and friends. It is a beautiful, antique-filled inn with ample dining space spread out over several rooms. Service was friendly and professional, and the meal was well paced. The chef sent out a duck sample that was fantastic! Our girls loved the potato soup. The salads were bright and refreshing. The steaks, salmon and scallops were perfectly cooked and delicious. The phyllo wrapped creme brûlée was something we have never seen before and it was really good. The star of the dessert course, however, was their homemade double chocolate chip cookies. YUM! Overall, the Interlaken provides a delicious meal in beautiful setting in a quiet location off of Main Street. We'll be back!

Wow! We hit the jackpot! Wonderful, wonderful. I had the filet mignon and my husband had the Chicken Pot Pie. We loved this place. Service isn't "perfection" but they are very friendly and accommodating. You'll love it! We did.

We scheduled a holiday gathering for 21 of us at the Interlaken Restaurant. A beautifully decorated room off the main entrance made for a perfect setting for our group. It was a Thursday night when they offer a "small plate" special. The service was impeccable and the food delicious. I tried a scallop dish, a shepard's pie and a superb halibut. A few people in our party ordered the warm cookies for dessert. They come out from the kitchen, a dozen to a platter, perfect for passing around the table. For the quality of food, the setting and the service, we felt the price was very reasonable. The wait staff even handled multiple checks with ease and efficiency. It was a perfect evening for our holiday party. We will definitely come back again.
