Great hostel. Tmax and Topo definitely have things well in order and provide great hospitality. There is a large common area, a large common kitchen, food for sale, pool, tennis court, firepit, small BBQ grill, etc. Did not see the bunk rooms but stayed in the Roaring Brook 'motel' room and it was excellent. Definitely the best value in town if you have more than four people, and probably still if you have less. The prices are reasonable, the location is perfect, and I honestly couldn't ask for more. Although I am also satisfied with Keene Valley Hostel, I think Tmax and Topos definitely have a better situation.

The place is really cosy and pleasant, my bed was very comfortable. David's uncomplicated ways, interesting instructions on hiking and mountaineering, and warm welcome made my stay there perfect. The kitchen is big and well-equipped. It is easy to get in touch with fellow travelers. Simply great!

The difference between staying at a hostel vs a hotel is that you meet other people with similar interests. We've stayed here a number of times when hiking the high peaks. At T-Max-n-Topo's the owners are also present to give you guidance. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, they have a great kitchen and they keep making improvements. What more can you ask for?

Room Tip: The hostel has bunk rooms with 4,6 and 8 beds and two private suites. It just depends on how many pe...

I come here with my friends every December to stay while we hike and climb - it is a pleasant and very convenient place to stay. it is a hostel, so there are no luxuries. but they have a big a kitchen and the bedroom and bathrooms are always clean. they have a big living room and pretty much let us do whatever we need to while we are there. And its close to the Loj and plenty of trail heads. the owners are also very knowledgeable about hiking and the area.

Room Tip: if you want a private room, make sure you ask for it.

A friend and I stayed here for a night this week while attending a USA Bobsled recruiting camp. I was pleasantly surprised by both the cleanliness and coziness of this hostel. The kitchen is huge and features a commercial gas range as well as everything you could possibly need to cook your own meals. The host was extremely personable and insanely knowledgeable about local hiking and general "outdoorsy" stuff. They also have a great selection of board games and books if you have some extra time and need something to do. On a side note, they seem to be very proud to be a great staging spot for anyone looking to do the Lake Placid Ironman.

We recently enjoyed a much needed vacation in Lake Placid. We are not what most would consider real outdoorsy types and TMax-n-Topo's went above and beyond to make us comfortable and to guide us in making our trip a wonderful experience. We stayed in one of the private rooms and it was clean, quiet and comfortable. The kitchen is amazing as we enjoyed cooking up a wonderful breakfast! Free wi-fi allowed us to keep up with business at home while we enjoyed a glass of wine out on the massive deck. We are already planning on a return trip to Lake Placid and will definitely be heading back to TMax-n-Topo's Hostel.

Arrived Saturday about 5PM with my friend Bob to attend an event in Lake Placid, this place is great. I found the living room and kitchen area to be quite comfortable and very well equipped. The sleeping areas are located on the lower floor. There is a nice sitting area and storage for additional blankets if you need them. The bunk beds are located in various rooms. They are extremely clean and nicely decorated. Each area has it's own electric heat and controls. There are convenient shelves located on the wall next to each bed to hold your wallet, cell phone, eye glasses, etc. I would recommend bringing a flash light if you need to leave your bed during the night. The hallways are wide and well lighted. There are three nice bathrooms with shower so there is no waiting. There are numerous hooks to hang clothes or gear. They provide towel and soap. The water is hot and has great pressure.

There is a fully equipped kitchen with a large stove and nice meal prep areas if you want to cook. You need to bring all your own stuff for meal prep including paper towels and napkins. Plan on recycling your trash in the various bins, all laid out for your use. You are responsible for all clean up. They have a large eating area with long tables, this would be great for bunch of friends to have a mountain get a way. You are minutes from the High Peaks hiking trails and Lake Placid.

Terry and David are great hosts.

I have been to this area many times before and could kick myself for not staying here before.

Room Tip: First come first served to get the lower bunks.
