“What a fantastic place to stay!”

Spent 4 days at Wildwood and it was perfect. Excellent views and a handy distance to the main street of shops and restaurants. Wildwood also has canoes that you can take out. We also had a whirlpool in our room which is worth paying the extra for. Would love to come back when there's snow!

had a beautiful view from my balcony, canoes and paddleboats readily available with great natural scenery. watched loons with their half grown young. used both indoor and outdoor pools, had both to myself. stargazing was excellent and so relaxing..our room had a wonderful whirlpool tub in the bathroom. beautiful sitting and reading rooms on both floors with fine assortment of books and magazines. grills and plenty of seating on the lake. had a wonderful stay and can't wait to go back. wish we had stayed longer. one of our favorite places to stay...anywhere.....robert and mary ball

My family stayed at Wildwood for 3 nights and we were very happy. Upon arrival they were kind enough to offer a lakeside room with a nice view at the same price but we choose to stay in the "small" kitchette and were not disappointed. It even had a separate bedroom and accomodated our family of 4 perfectly. It had the feel of a cozy cottage. We had our coffee by the lake and the view was wonderful. My kids enjoyed the indoor pool; as it was early spring the outdoor pool was not open but it looked like it would be fun in the summer. Also, because we of the season we weren't able to take advantage of the canoes etc. but we would have loved it! The location is great. We walked to Main St. every day and made use of the drugstore across the street. The off season rates were very reasonable and we would stay there again.

My stay at The Wildwood on the lake was just great, very clean room, helpful staff. It was so cold that weekend, my car would not start so I called the front desk and they had a member of their staff give me a jump. To me that speaks well, on how this establishment believes in customer service. A family run business that I will visit again. And when you do come be sure to say hello to little Webber Jane.

My husband, daughter and I stayed at Wildwood on the Lake last June. We had Cottage #7, I believe. Our visit was a combination of weather-related nightmares, but the owners couldn't have been more accommodating! We got in after dark, and it was hot and humid. The large fridge in the kitchen didn't seem very cold inside, so the owner got another smaller one, plopped it on a dolly, and wheeled it up the steps and plugged it in. I don't think I was his favorite person that night(!), but he was certainly helpful. The big fridge worked the next day (just like he said it would) - it just needed time to work after being shut off for cleaning. It was early in the season, and they hadn't put in the bedroom A/C units yet, but they said they would bring one the next day. They gave us fans instead, which worked fine. The A/C wasn't needed, after all. The weather changed - got cool and rainy. We determined to make the best of it - and the employees lifted the paddle boats out of the water many times during the next few days in order to dump out the rainwater so we could boat between showers! A power pole fell outside of town - so the entire Lake Placid area had no light for the better part of a day. The owners delivered flashlights and light sticks so that if the problem persisted past dark (it didn't) we would have light. The rooms were very pretty - lots of pine and a nifty little breakfast nook where we played card games while it rained. A nice big front porch was great - with a lovely view of the lake. In fact, that's our current screen saver photo! There's a little gazebo that provides shelter, and comfy Adirondack chairs to curl up in. It's a small enough place so that we greeted our cabin neighbors when we all ventured out between showers. We got sandwiches from the little place across the street and had a picnic on the grounds between rain storms. There's a drug store right across the street, too - and the Adirondack craft center is just down the block. They have a wonderful Farmer's Market in the summer with arts, crafts and food for sale. The owners live on property, so someone is ususally there, but may be out on the property working - so you may not have the "traditional" desk clerk always present. I never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for assistance - and we were in the office a lot! There was usually an office cat around that wanted petting, so I didn't mind any wait! I think that Wildwood is more like an expanded B&B than a big resort, and we liked the personal interaction. Of all the places we've stayed in the area - it's our favorite. It was a lovely break - and we'll be back again.

My husband and I visit Lake Placid several times a year and we have stayed in a variety of motels, hotels and lodges. We have been impressed with some but our lakeview room at Wildwood on the Lake is by far our new favorite! Upon our arrival we enjoyed a quick and easy check in and a wonderfully clean room with a terrific view of Whiteface. They don't skimp on the heat (most definitelty a plus since we arrived on a cold day with a steady slushy snow falling) and unlike many other places we have stayed, this motel was really quiet all night making it easy to get a good night's sleep. There was a lounge just a few doors down the hall and what a treat! The large glass windows provide a spectacular view of the lake and Whiteface. It was beautiful in the snow, but I can't wait to see it in the summer. There is definitely a warm family atmosphere and friendly conversation abounds. The front desk staff was extremely helpful in directing us to trails suitable for short hikes in the snow. One of our favorite sandwich shops is right across the street making it a snap to grab a hearty and quick meal. We will definitely be back.

We have just returned from a wonderful four nights in cottage #18 at Wildwood and I cannot recommend it highly enough. The cottage is utterly lovely - one vast room with an enormous bed, plenty of soft blankets and an engaging ethnic print throw. Other highlights: the soft, comfy armchair and footstool in front of the log fire, the bathroom with jacuzzi bath big enough for a family of ten (!), the decor and furnishings, which were pleasingly traditional (plenty of logs, real wood, greens and browns) without going down the usual cheesy path beloved of many hotels. The room had a very powerful heating system (although the log fire was a treat after an evening out), a fabulous private deck with plenty of furniture and a thoughtfully provided bottle of wine and box of chocolates. Really, it was one of the nicest rooms we have ever stayed in. Very highly recommended.
