“Lovely Resort, Great Experience”
Reviewed August 27, 2009

We stayed here for a short get away. Our room was well outfitted and comfortable. The staff was very accomodating and helpful. This is a beautiful facility. We had a lovely view of Mirror Lake and Whitface Mountain. Their Dancing Bear restaurant was very nice with great food and service. Our stay couldn't have been better.

Lake Placid has such a rich history of serving as a beautiful Green getaway and the High Peaks Resort with its newly renovated interior makes you feel like the stress of the world has slipped away. The History wall on the main floor was fascinating, the food was great at the Dancing Bear and our balcony overlooked Mirror Lake. Our room looked brand new and was huge. The legacy continues. We'll be back soon!!

We booked a lake view room - and yes we could see the lake but sadly we could also see (and hear) the road and the small but crowded swimming pool. The hotel is situated on the corner of a main road; a road which separates the hotel from the lake. We had booked two rooms - a courtyard for the kids and a lakeview for us - yet both rooms had the same view straight onto the pool which was very busy and only a stones throw from the rooms (reminded us of a motel) - we could see the pool users they could see us. We were offered alternative accomodation in the mirror lake rooms - they were even worse - someone had their sun-lounger right outside our window - looking straight into the room we were offered- no privacy whatsoever unless we closed the curtains - so much for the view. Indeed we agree wholeheartedly with the previous reviewer and their observations re these rooms.

There are positives - staff were great, very helpful and rooms are nicely done out nothing exceptional but no complaints- Molten Brown toiletries a nice touch. Public areas are quite smart though corridors smelled fusty. We cut short our stay - if we'd wanted a holiday camp we'd have gone to Butlins for a fraction of the price and a great deal more to do! But if you're not worried about staying in a noisey goldfish bowl at a premium price then this may be for you. Alternatively book out of season when the pool is closed and traffic minimal.

Things to be aware of if you plan on staying in the lakefront rooms (Mirror Lake Collection Rooms):

You don't want rooms 700-709. They have a view of the outside pool, not of the lake as shown in the pictures....this is not mentioned anywhere on the site. These rooms should be cheaper than the rest!

The rooms are extremely noisy! We got to the room and we heard a loud boom.....thought it was thunder. We looked outside...it was sunny. We heard the noise again and again and soon realized it was coming from the parking lot that is directly above all the lakeside rooms. Anytime a car pulled in or out, it sounded like extremely loud thunder. The rooms themselves also have thin walls and we could hear everything.

The hotel is pet friendly which is nice......until the dog's owners left for 5 hours and the dog continued barking non-stop for 5 hours.

We were able to take out one of the paddle boats at 5:30am to catch a sunrise (which was beautiful)....however, the boats get scooped up quickly during the day....so if you don't act fast, this ammenity is useless. Plus there are many places on the lake that allow you to rent boats.

I definitely do not think that the lakeside rooms are worth the price...even if we had a nice view of the lake. Way too noisy! We're both in our early 30's....and it was still too noisy for us :)

The main hotel looked nice....we didn't see the rooms....but if you are going to stay at high peaks, I would try that over the lakeside rooms.

Didn't know about the High Peaks Resort before I got there. Loved it!

The funky Dancing Bears Bar/Restaurant was fun, and from the walls I had my memory jogged that this was that place during the 1980 Olympics where those famously raucous celebrations emanated from with the athletes. The giant oil painting of dancing bears on the wall is a hoot!

But the room was a real delight - loved the marble and wood.

Found the staff friendly and helpful. And got to sneak out onto the bar/restaurant that was (then) soon to open - Reflections - that has killer views of Mirror Lake and the old Lake Placid mainstreet both.

Was a bit cool for me when I was there, but check out the cool pool right next to the Mirror Lake. Even without taking a swim I went out there several times just to soak in the views reflected off the water on both sides!

Can't wait until I get to go back!

This resort is in an ideal location - great pools, rooms, and access to the lake. Room was lovely and spacious... and was in impeccable condition. Would highly recommend for families, couples, and anyone else looking for a great resort. Lake Placid has a lot to offer - great food and shopping.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at High Peaks Resort . The room had very nice modern amenities. My husband thought the pancakes at Dancing Bears was the best he has ever eaten - light and fluffy. The pool is nice but I do feel that they need more umbrellas and that they need to have more towel at the pool. We enjoyed our dinner at Milano . They have the best primavera pizza _ thin crust with goat cheese and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. It was de -licious . We also enjoyed our dinner outside at the Cottage . On one of the days we walked to the Marina and took a narrative one hour cruise on Lake Placid which we found informative. Afterward we walked around Mirror Lake - 2 1/2 Miles back to the hotel. This was our first trip to Lake Placid and we are looking forward to going back sometime in the future
